"this heavy world should change"

(flashback, freshman year. jisung is sitting on the roof of his apartment building, legs swinging as he sits on the edge)

jisung's hands shake as he picks up his phone, pressing on his favourite contact. chenle's contact. the name is listed as 'dolphin 💙', and a smile tugs at the corner of his mouth when he sees it. what a weird feeling. smiling as you're about to jump off a building.

shaking his head to clear his thoughts, jisung presses the 'call' button and holds his breath, praying for the melodic 'beep!' that would signal chenle answering his call.

"hello? ji, where are you? i was so worried when you didn't show up for class! i thought you might've done something stupid!"

jisung's heart skips a beat when he hears chenle's voice crack, giving away how concerned he was for his best friends wellbeing. he took a deep breath, and prepared himself to say the words that might shatter chenle completely.

"i-i'm on the roof."

jisung hears chenle's breath hitch, and then clattering and swears coming from his speaker, followed by the faint sound of what sounds like a door slamming.

"PARK JISUNG. listen to me. if you even dare to move a muscle i'm going to tear you to shreds. i-i need you to stay, ji."

chenle hiccups as his voice trails off, the only sounds left to be heard quiet sobs and quickening footsteps.

jisung feels a tear trickle down his cheek, running over a fresh bruise from where his dad had punched him not 2 hours before. a reminder of what he would have to deal with if he stayed. an earth so cruel it let children starve, teens be raped and knives to slice through delicate, innocent skin.

"i'm sorry lele." jisung whispers, almost inaudible.

"i love you, i really do. you were the only one who cared about me, who always stood by my side. you never treated me like i was broken or something to be fixed. you treated me like i was a person. and for that i'll be eternally grateful. please, just forget about me. move on, find new friends who won't be so burdensome to you, a lover who'll treat you right. none of this is your fault. if it wasn't for you, i would've died years ago. you kept me going. but i can't do this anymore. i-"

tear tracks run down jisung's face, the salty liquid steadily flowing. the taste of pain lingering on his lips, sobs wracking his chest as he tries to steady his wavering voice as much as possible.

"i'm sorry, chenle. but i have to go. maybe we'll meet again one day."
