(SCENE 1, PARKING LOT)

(ALAN and GRACE are standing next to a car, ALAN is trying to pry it open.)

GRACE

Can't we just take a bus.

ALAN

Nah too many faces that'll recognize us, this is more conspicuous.

GRACE

Oh yeah nothing's more conspicuous than driving a stolen car.

(ALAN brakes the lock.)

ALAN

There we are.

(ALAN and GRACE get in the car. He hotwires the car.)

GRACE

Since when do you know how to hotwire a car.

ALAN

Sam taught me.

GRACE

Ah cool.

(ALAN drives it. They sit in silence for a minute.)

GRACE

So why are we going to Xanadu ?

ALAN

(sighs) When I was high, I saw my mom, and I'm just hoping that going back to my summer home will, I don't know get her out of my head.

GRACE

Yeah I saw my mom too.

ALAN

That must've been fun.

GRACE

Even when I'm high, I can't escape her.

ALAN

Hey you did escape her, you're here, we're together and will be free from all of our problems and just think you're going to meet your Dad.

GRACE

Yeah I get to meet my Dad (pauses) I'M GOING TO MEET MY DAD !

ALAN

Tenderness Relax, it's all going to be (pauses) fine.

GRACE

What is it ?

ALAN

Xanadu.

(The House is rundown, the windows are broken, dust is everywhere.)

GRACE

Looks like it's been condemned.

ALAN

Yeah.

(he walks past a mailbox with Xanadu painted on it and three hands around it, he places his hand on the mailbox.)

It's so different.

(He walks over to the door, reaches for the doorknob, hesitates. He opens it. All the bugs scurry away at the light. ALAN walks through it. GRACE is unsure about what to say.)

GRACE

So this your childhood home huh ?

ALAN

Yeah it wasn't this bad, it was well a normal home.

(ALAN walks to a door at the end of the hallway, he opens it and walks through.)
