THE SKY WAS ON THE verge of becoming dark, the dim sky tinting to almost a pitch black by the time they exited the theatre. There was only the sound of crickets and an indistinctive chatter from people passing by, as the couple walked side by side.
The pair headed towards the parking lot, searching for their car.
Tom's arm would brush up against hers every now and then, and she couldn't help but notice it and feel the heat rising up to her cheeks. Luckily it wasn't broad daylight, and the shadows did a good job of hiding the crimson from her cheeks.
"So," Tom began, a cheeky smile creeping up to his pink lips, turning his head a bit to look at her. Her muscles were tense and she couldn't come to a conclusion on why, she'd tense up and her heart rate would elevate once his eyes would land on her.
"So," Lily mimicked his tone, the corner of her mouth rising once she had glanced at him.
"What'd you think? Comments, concerns, opinions?" He asked in a curious manner. She breathed out a chuckle, at his care for her thoughts on his movie.
"To be honest, I wasn't expecting it to be really good." She watched as his eyes widened, pursing her lips as he swiftly jumped in excitement.
Tom paused as if his brain stuttered for a moment. "Did I hear you right? Did Lily Sommers actually approve of my movie? A movie solely based on Spider-man?" She followed with a sequence of giggles, his features completely stunned.
"I gotta give you credit for that American accent, and also his attempt at trying to get with Liz Allan." She remarked, as it was his turn to laugh, the crinkles by his eyes adding a depth to his already wide smile.
He shook his head. "More than enough appreciation from you." He responded, continuing. "Hey, but Peter tried his best."
"He sure did. I now understand why you were chosen to play the part of Spider-man."
"Are you implementing that I'm terrible at flirting with girls that I like?" He had a cheeky smile displayed on his features, as he scrunched his brows in confusion.
She shook her head, a light chuckle reverberating through her chest. "Not that you're bad at flirting, it's because I kind of see you in Peter. You guys are similar, I don't know."
"How so? I quite get that a lot."
She hummed, searching for an explanation. It was probable that her response would be silly, but she said it anyway in a fumble. "Um, you guys are both cute, like adorable. Scratch that, no. Yes?"
"No, don't scratch that." He gave a smug grin, his eyes lit up, hiding it as best as he could. She playfully rolled her eyes, nudging his side.
"You guys are both clumsy and overall, not the best at keeping secrets." She shook her head, a lighthearted laugh, as she was in defeat for a clear answer. "You share some great qualities, I just can't think of it right now."
"That was great. You did amazing." He paused, his chuckle coming to a slow end, letting out a breath as the faded city noises invaded their conversation, on top of the silence that began to thicken in the air.
Both were trying think of something to say, but they settled, there was a comforting presence amongst the two that made them breathe slower, calmer, and just plain happier.
They were like this until they had safely gotten to the vehicle, her head resting on the glass window, eyes locking on every thing they passed by which was a blur, having only half a second to lay her eyes on it, as he began to drive to her apartment.
"I'm glad you're here with me." He spoke, letting his eyes trail to her features, an unknown tug to his chest.
"Hm?" She moved her head away from the window to hear his words.
"Oh, thank you for coming with me to watch the movie." He muttered, choosing to change his choice of words. His hands were on the wheel, but it was as if she could feel his eyes resting on her figure. "Wasn't exactly your type of movie but you still chose to watch it."
She turned to gaze at him, a small smile appearing on her mouth. "Of course. I had a great time as always, no matter the movie."
The car slowed to a halt, a red light casting on the dashboard from the traffic light, as her eyes wandered towards the light to him. His eyes mirroring hers, as she held herself from fumbling with her hands. She didn't even realize that their eyes had locked, and it stayed like that from what it seemed like forever. A dimple carved on his cheeks, when he began to smile, it was only a small smile but it was enough for her heart to flutter.
When he opened his mouth to say something she couldn't distinguish what he was saying, until the red turned to a green light from above them, and she snapped away. "What? Sorry."
He softly chuckled at her. "Something is on. By the Beatles."
"Oh, it is?" She turned the volume knob to the right to higher the volume, the known song clear to her. Resting her head once more on the glass, she could hear him humming and she swore she felt a feeling in her stomach that she couldn't figure out.
"I don't want to leave her now." He tried to sing, but instead was heard as a low mumble.
Lily couldn't pinpoint why she was feeling a certain way, and when the song finished it was all clear to her. As if Picasso finished his painting, she could finally understand what it was.
Her heart tumbling in somersaults, their eyes locking her into a trance, there was only one evident answer to all this. She was falling, hard.
