"I'll come back, I promise"Those were the words that haunted me for the rest of that year.
"You're just saying that so I don't go mad, Poppy"
"I'm saying that because I am coming back ."
She was moving, and I couldn't stand the single thought of that.
"It's alright, I'll be fine, just don't forget me, okay?" I chuckled.
"As if I ever could."
All three of my best friends were leaving and I would be separated from them which was an unbearable thought to have.
In the corner of my eye I saw Grace's lips tremble and her eyes tear up. I hated seeing her like that so I walked up to her and wrapped my arms around her. Her shaking body immediately calmed down. "You can do this Grace, don't let anything bring you down. We'll stay in touch"
"Promise?"
"Promise"
"So, I guess this is it." Alex shrugged.
"I hate to crush your assumptions but you're really mistaken if you are thinking that I'll just let you go"
"Out of sight, out of heart. Isn't that what they say?"
"Oh my dear Alex I am absolutely gutted that you think so little of me" I said with a puppy face.
"Just shut up and hug me you nutter!"
They got in the cab and left leaving me not only with pain but more importantly with pride, because they had made it. They escaped.
