when the party is over
and the night has settled
we drive home in the rain
as it falls on the metal
music soft and low
my hand in yours
pattering tears on the window
and streaming down the doors
the sun will rise soon
but tonight we are infinite
just me and you
in this night, so intimate
the road ahead, but my eyes are on you
feeling alive as the sky goes black to blue
street lights blur through the pour
and i can't help but adore
the way you look at me
knowing i am yours
so the rain will trickle
drizzle and ripple
soft music, low and subtle
when the party is over
and there's a sky of tears
i lean over and whisper in your ear
cherish me like these nights
and i'll always be here
