Pearl didn't feel comfortable around father. He had mistreated her terribly in her past life. He had given her the worst punishments when just teaching her homework from school. He had whipped Pearl with thorn cane until her singlet would turn red!
Pearl couldn't forgive him because she felt he was cruel and didn't deserve her forgiveness. Caning a six year old girl with thorn bush, even Marvel's Jessica Jones wouldn't do that to her enemies. Father had changed these days but I doubt there's no hole of intolerance and quick temper in his heart. I hope he'll change, which I doubt, and think would take decades.
That night, Father told Mother he a would take me to my stepmother, Mary's place for her to take me to the church the following morning, which afterwards, he would join us himself before the church service was over. I saw disagreement on Mother's face, but I didn't know why she kept mute.
