Epilogue
Saskie
I shuffled from foot to foot as the train crawled painfully slowly into the station. I grumbled as it took its sweet time, tossing my hair over my shoulder. Todd tried to avoid my hair going straight into his face, and failed.
"Sask," he tried to repress his grin. "You won't make the train go faster by getting pissy at it."
"I can try," I hopped impatiently as it finally crept to a stop and the door hissed as it opened. "Finally! C'mon!"
Todd grabbed our suitcases and followed me as I bounced my way down the station platform. Luckily, I was short, and he was very tall and mostly made up of leg, so my energetic pace matched his normal pace. I had mental images of me speeding away from any other person, left with our suitcases and no idea where he was. Fortunately, Todd was used to me, and seemed to like my endless reserves of energy.
Manchester train station was massive, and crowded at the best of times, so we always organised to meet at a coffee shop down the road from it. I fought my way through the crowd, holding onto Todd so he wouldn't get swallowed up by the people like a bizarre sacrifice to the train gods.
"C'mon, c'mon," I hurried him along, pulling more than holding onto his hand now.
"Sask, they won't mind if we're a couple of minutes late," he laughed, but he knew that wasn't really my concern. I just wanted to get there as fast as possible.
I was lucky, in many ways, to have Todd. He was a kind and generous person, but he was also unflappable. Most men, if they heard their girlfriend had four dads, would probably just bolt immediately. Todd saw it as a plus, because mothers terrified him.
I flung the coffee shop door open with the diva attitude I had inherited from my aunts, and beamed at the four men excitedly awaiting me. "Dads!"
This began our usual routine of meeting up; all four of them trying to hug me at once, and me trying to hug all four of them at once. Eventually we collapsed into a group hug and Todd graciously popped our suitcases out of the way and went to order a drink for me and him while I got my emotions out of the way.
"I'm sorry we're late," I sniffed, my eyes wet with tears at the gentle cuddles from my dads. Everyone took their seats. "I think the train driver died at the seat and we just free-wheeled into the station."
"Don't tell us, tell him," Colin indicated Tyler. "He's the nervous wreck whenever you're more than two minutes late."
Tyler kicked him under the table, right in the shins, grinning sheepishly. "Just because you're Mr Calm and Collected doesn't mean the rest of us have to be."
"He's only nervous because you've brought your boyfriend," Andrew winked at me conspiratorially.
"Narc," Tyler retorted, folding his arms across his chest.
"He's been very annoying for the last three hours," Elliot patted his knee comfortingly as he delivered the brutal truth. "We're very much looking forward to meeting Todd." He then eyed me. "And you're sure all four of us at once was the smart idea?"
"Rip the plaster off," I grinned, turning to Tyler. "Dad, if it helps in any way, just know that Todd's a very gentle lover."
"Oh, God," Tyler cringed and put his face in his hands, as the others fell about laughing.
