“Today is our first mission. Let’s try not to fail this time Ronan.” Mearo supposed, holding his arms tightly. His breath sounded like a sick children, pressing on with the sound of the train crashing down the tracks.
Ronan looked into the path up ahead. The train was moving so fast it shook sideways. Both of them held the rails on the train’s roof to steady themselves. The wind was pressing on their bodies like tidal waves, with enough force to push them backwards. The only things that made them steady were the rails.
The train was moving in a linear motion now. The road below which he assumed to be six meters below the tracks was enlightened with street lights. That’s their destination. Mearo stared back to Ronan and reminded him with the timing of their assault.
“There’s no second try on this thing Ronan, follow my lead.” Mearo said, his voice was loud enough to compete with the raging wind and sound of the train crashing on the tracks. Ronan looked below and they saw their target. Mearo unleashed his flames from his hand like a dagger. It had an orange glow and was so bright and warm. Mearo muttered a bit and turn his gaze on Ronan who was motionless. Ronan pressed on with his elbow which also triggered his flames. Yellowish flame staggered from his arm but it was not as intense as Mearo’s.
Mearo nodded and jumped from the train. Ronan followed with a bit of hesitation but he knew that there was no turning back now. Clear air surprised their drop until they hanged into the loose wires sagged from below the tracks. Their jumped didn’t even make any noise.
“That’s the target.” Mearo whispered to Ronan. A luxurious vehicle was making on its way to the intersection. It had a very bright silver glow and its plate number was so unique that you would expect it to be owned by a rich individual. When the vehicle positioned itself right below the two, Mearo jumped immediately landing on the roof. Ronan followed but he dropped by the back side of the car and nearly falling down the road below. People inside the car heard the drop of the two and they leaned outside their vehicle, pointing their assault rifles on the two boys. The two boys unleashed their flames to the armed men and they immediately placed them into their misery. Mearo continued to press on, placing his hand by the roof. He removed his glove by his right hand and unleashed another set of flames. The fire engulfed the car, killing all the passengers inside. Ronan who was spacing out for a bit fled with Mearo to the following street.
“Mission is complete. I’m pretty sure Jori would be glad.” Mearo alleged, with a wide smirk on his face as he walked the street steadily. Ronan remained quiet, staring into the night sky but there were no stars the sky can provide. It is as if the whole atmosphere was covered with a black paint.
“Are you really sure I am fit to be with you guys?” Ronan asked out of nowhere. His face was lost, full of confusion and doubts. He covered his arms where the source of the flame was unleashed. For him, it was so magical. The gift was so special he never thought it really existed in this world.
Mearo stared back and sighed. He placed his hand on Ronan’s shoulder as they cross the road by an overpass. He smiled shortly until finally deciding to stare away again. He closed his eyes for a moment. “You have the flames; it’s as simple as that. You know that the society cannot accept us, who are beyond normal people. This is the best we can do for them. This is Jori’s hope for the mankind. We are the only individuals who can stand against hidden crimes of this city.”
Ronan looked to Mearo but as soon as he learned that he was staring away, he turned his gaze somewhere else. The air was colder by this time now. It was almost midnight when they decided to separate ways.
“The power to fight against crime, are we really the people assigned for this work?” Ronan continued to ask himself. He was not very convinced with the work they were doing all this time. There was so much to learn about everything. Ronan reached the playground by the park. He stayed there for a moment until finally deciding to go back to his home.
