This is a story of love, friendship and betrayal.
This is not just another love story.
This the the story of Arjun.
Happily Ever After, it's nothing but a myth you would never experience.
The taxi is going to arrive any minute. All my stuff is packed into bags and cartons. Books, trophies, clothes, pictures, everything. I hate doing this but I have no other option left with me. I look at everyone for one last time. Everyone is here, Ana, Rajat, Shubhit, Pratyush, Aarvi, Jay and Ahana. Reena aunty is also here. We decided not to sell the house. Both of us would keep the key to the house. I don't know when will I return. Pratyush is very angry with me. "Why do you have to go? We can work it out. Why can't you stay? We can figure out something. Hoow will you live there? People, food, weather, everything. You wouldn't survive."
"I heard it's very cold there in Kasauli. It snows for almost 6 months." Jay says.
"You remember what happened to you in winters, 2 years back? You are in such a bad condition. Aunty's neem syrup saved you." Pratyush said.
"That is the point. Pratyush, Jay, guys, we need to understand that this is it. Arjun can't stay. He has to go. And in the next one and half years, all of us will have to leave too. You can't hold onto him, we can't make him stay. What we all had, is over. We have spent an amazing time together. It's mature and right that we let him go, happily. Let's send him off with smiles and hugs, he has a long journey to take." Rajat says.
"And we are only worried about ourselves. Can we be anymore selfish? Have you thought of Ahana? I mean, they just met for like 2 days and so much happened after it. The last one month has been so difficult for all of us. But we can't feel what Ahana is feeling. Both of us may not get along really well because obviously, she stole my Arjun's heart, but okay. I can understand what she might be going through." Aarvi says.
"And Arjun, he is leaving all of us. He lost his parents, he's gonna leave his home where he spent his entire life. Such sudden a change is too difficult to adapt." Shubhit adds.
"The taxi is here." Says Reena aunty.
All of us do a group hug. "I love you all. I don't know what would I do without you all. The fun, laughter, madness, all of it. My life was the perfect mess, I was too spoilt and now it has to be organised. I'll be bound with rules and regulations. Get up at five, sleep at ten; lunch, dinner and breakfast, everything be timely. I'll have to share my room which I just hate. I don't know if I'll find friends like you all there. I don't even know if I'll be able to make any friends. I agree that Ravenwood International is a beautiful, luxurious and happy place. It has students from various countries but no one can match up to your level. Nobody can be you all. Who will bunk classes with me? Whom will I irritate the previous night of the exams? Whom will I stand in punishment with? Who will set me up with girls now? Who will defeat me in Air Hockey? Do they even have that in the hostel? And I'll be missing aunty's biryani, Ana."
"We'll miss you too, bhai. Take Care. Khuda Hafiz."
"Guys I'm not gonna give you false hopes. I know it's tough. I don't know if we'll be able to stay in touch. I don't know if I'll ever return. I want to be practical enough. This is probably the last time I'm seeing you all but don't worry, I will be okay."
Reena aunty clicks a picture of all of us. Oh, I am so gonna cry when I see it.
"Let's keep the stuff in the taxi. Rajat, Jay, come along." Says Shubhit.
"We'll check if something is left upstairs." And Aarvi and Ana leave.
"I lock the rooms." Pratyush says.
Ahana is standing on the door.
"Ahana..."
"Shh. Don't say anything, I know everything. I may not be very mature but I do have mind. Go Arjun. It's your life, I can't make you stay. I wish you all the best for your future and I hope that maybe someday we'll bump into each other and then nobody will ever have to go away.
"You are a great person, Anu. I am going to miss you and I honestly wish this is the last time we are going away. I wish we'll meet someday." I say.
I peck on her lips and she embraces me into a tight hug.
"We had our own little Happily Ever After, didn't we?" I say and we break apart to the sound of the horn.
"It's time to leave." I sigh.
We lock the main door and with one last glance at my 'home' and my 'human homes' I sit into the taxi and leave.
Probably, some stories do not have a happy ending.
