Long Gone

It was a Friday I found out.

A Friday I'd love to forget.

You'd had a moment of weakness,

And gave in to a lifetime's regret.

She found you in the kitchen,

Laying on the floor.

The pills on the counter,

You'd escaped your inner war.

You hated yourself for feeling so weak,

You wanted to leave, you wanted defeat.

So you ended your life,

You gave up the fight,

You gave in to the demons that tormented you,

And left many with heartaches they've yet to undo.

I miss you and think of you every day,

I'd have done anything to have made you stay.

I loved you more than I'd like to admit.

You were the peach, and I was the pit.

I'm lonly without you, I wish you hadn't gone.

You never even knew, and it chills me to the bone.

Maybe if you'd waited,

Slept through the night,

You'd be ready another day,

Ready to take up the fight.

The questions keep coming,

Ringing through my brain,

Our love was like a blanket,

Yet covered in splatters and stains.

Imperfections are strengths.

Weakness makes you strong.

I wish you could have known this,

For in this you were so wrong.

I'd give my right arm to have you back,

But even if you could, I know it wouldn't last.

So you'll live forever in my memories.

In my heart you'll never truely die.

Even though for now we must say goodbye.
