XXXI | MYSTERIES
Nox sat down on the bed and laid back, letting his legs dangle off the side. He sighed, pillowing his head with his arms.
A door whined open, and Nox let a smile slip through.
"Nox, is that you? What are you doing here?"
"I think I'm going to take a nap here, Doc. If that's okay with ya! You'll have to be very patient, though. I'll be out like a light for a few hours." Nox chuckled at his own joke.
"That's not funny," Blue said. Nox could almost see the bear's frown. "What exactly are you here for? You don't like the infirmary."
"Says who?" Nox hefted his torso up to sit, planting his feet on the ground.
Blue sighed, and Nox's grin widened when he saw the green bear in a blue nightgown and a long sleeping cap. Nox just knew his arrival had woken the bear up.
"I thought you were a student," Blue said, completely ignoring Nox's question. "You disturbed my sleep."
"I can see that," Nox said. "Nice jammies, Blue. I guess you needed something to fit your name."
Blue's brows furrowed in annoyance. "Very funny, Nox. If you only came to annoy me, then I suggest you leave. Why'd you come all the way here if you could just annoy Darron?"
Nox shrugged. "I like to switch things around sometimes. Besides, Darron locks his doors now. I think he's trying to keep me out. He's probably tired of waking up in the early morning to a false announcement."
Blue sighed, bringing his fuzzy hand up to his muzzle as his own way of pinching the bridge of his nose. "I'm guessing that's not too effective?"
"What can I say? With me around, locks just don't seem to function. Maybe it's 'cuz I'm adorable."
"Or because you like to pick them."
Nox grinned. "Or that. Though I like the first option a lot more."
Blue sighed, knowing he wasn't getting rid of Nox any time soon. He pulled up his stool and struggled to get on.
"Don't you dare," he warned, when he saw Nox moving to pick him up and help him.
Nox shrugged. "You need a smaller chair."
"I'm fine." Blue heaved himself up and plopped down. "Now, what's up?"
"The ceiling," Nox replied with a sniff. "And you and me."
Blue would have rolled his eyes. But he knew Nox had come for a reason. Even though the caster was immature and annoying, he was perceptive and surprisingly good at his job. "No, Nox. I meant, what's the real reason you came here?"
Nox sat back on the cot, leaning on his elbows. "Kly's gone on another mission."
Blue nearly fell off his seat. "He what?"
"He left yesterday. To the recruitment tavern, and I'm guessin' he found something since he never came back."
The bear suppressed a groan, instead rubbing his head with his palm. "That boy never listens."
"Which is precisely why I'm here." Nox's eyes lost all mischief. It was something that rarely happened, and Blue had seen it only a few times before. Nox's annoying jokes and humour would completely vanish to be replaced with a scarily serious demeanor.
