So early on when Sherlock first met Molly I think Sherlock was nicer, and was sort of a friend, maybe he even considered making it romantic.
But.
Mycroft deduced this and called his brother weak or accused him of loving "caring is not an advantage" blah blah blah and beau cause it's the biggest sibling rivalry in the world he retaliated by ceasing to care, especially Molly. That's why he's so mean, he's trying to prove that Mycroft is wrong.
