Peter walked into the infirmary. It was a mess; Dr. Strange and Banner were running around trying to bandage and dress wounds.
"Excuse me, Mr. Strange? Do you need any help?" Peter offered.
Strange didn't even spare a glance at Peter. He couldn't afford to.
"No, you've got enough on your plate. Go wait for y/n to wake up. I doubt she wants to come to alone."
Peter looked around. He decided to take Strange up on the offer and walked over to your bed where you laid unmoving.
It was pretty loud in the infirmary so he didn't feel weird talking you. He knew you might not be able to hear him, but he had to at least try.
He sat in the chair opposite the side of the bed and grabbed your hand.
"What you did was really brave, y/n. I don't know why I expected any different." He laughed and felt tears coming.
"You stopped him. You ended the war that would've killed us all...you did that. You really did that."
He sniffed and looked at your barely rising and falling chest. "And you might not even be able to live the life everyone else gets to live."
"But that's just it. You're willing to give up everything to make others happy. And I get it, I do, but...I don't get how you do it sometimes. How you're not afraid."
You were weak, but able to smile.
"Oh, I was completely petrified," you croaked. "But the thought of living without my dad or even you, though I didn't see you in immediate danger, kept my heart and mind steady."
"Have you been awake this whole time?"
"Kind of," you smirked. Peter blushed and tried to hide his face in his knees. "It was very sweet, Peter. Almost made me cry."
He lifted his head out of his knees, still embarrassed. You realized how red his eyes were and you stopped smiling.
"Pete, were you crying?"
He tried to deny it, but you could read him like a book.
"It's okay to cry, Pete. It's okay."
"You have to stop doing this, y/n. I can't...I just...I know that someone has to do it I know...I just..."
He tried not to look you in the eyes because he knew that if he did, he'd break down.
You tried to sit up. Your wounds were healing pretty fast and so there wasn't much pain involved.
"Come here." You patted the empty space next to you and Peter crawled into bed with you.
He buried his face in your chest and started to sob. He'd tried to hold it in but he simply couldn't anymore.
