Fight or hide

chapter 1

Today was like any other day, we all lived in a big house that kind of looked like a hotel. Besides, there was about nine teenagers plus parents living in the house. There was Paige and James Johl and Jared, Bronte, and Rose, then there was Lucy and I. All from different families plus Noah, Curtis, Ben who don't have any siblings. We all live here for the same reasons but some of us are sick of hiding, well I know I am.

We all wake up at 5 am for our morning training session, so that no one can really see us but it's not like we do much training anyway." Let's go, Ruby, I don't want to be the only one who happens to like these training sessions." Ben said while running backward as he talks to me. This is Ben my best mate who always somehow knows how to make everything a race well just between the two of us anyway. He knows how to make things more fun when they are meant to be boring. I don't know how he does it but he dies.

We all run out the back door ready to get this over and done with. Of course, my sister is still at the back flirting with Noah. I'm not the oldest out of Lucy and I but however, I do act like I am. Lucy has had a crush on No ah since I was six which was ten years ago. We all know they like each other but we are still waiting for this day for something to happen. Knowing Lucy and Noah we will be waiting a while for them two to finally get together. Love these days I tell you, hard to come by but even harder to tell someone but ye again I wouldn't know.

"Come on Ben your falling behind again and it's just a jog." I say as I laugh. Ben tries to catch up with me without falling over on his face. Our training sessions are meant to make us stronger. We do two laps of our big yard that looks like a football oval. Which is our morning jog but then we get into sprints. Then we train to fight which is why we get up so early because we have a lot to do. Most of us prefer to do these training sessions at night but we changed them to the mornings for multiple reasons. The main reason is that they are back.

The best part about the training is fighting Ben and I both love it. Rose and Bronte hate it due too their real parents leaving them and their adopted family soon did as well, as soon as they knew the two of them were both different. So, they both recently joined us about 3 years ago now but they did fit in quite easy. Which is a good thing but they hate to fight. I haven't figured out why yet but I will Sooner or later.

Jared and Curtis are brothers that always fight and it's always hard to split them up. However, they are both born fighters. I don't know if they just like fighting to empress the girls or they actually enjoy it. However, they both hate getting close to people and I haven't found out why yet either.

Then you have Johl, Noah who both have been here as long as Ben, Lucy and I. However, I'm sure I'm still the youngest out of all of us. Johl and Noah are pretty much doing what they are told but if you wake them up to watch out. They both love their sleep and trust me I made that mistake of trying to wake one of them up. Wasn't the best Idea I have had. Besides, I guess it's good to know how your team works. You need to know all the positives and negatives of all the team members

Like I said before fighting is fun but don't get to do much of it. "Ruby hurry up you know you're always my pair." Ben said and of course, he was right. I have always been his pair. We always push each other to our limits. Seconds between Ben and I's standoff and fighting I see his eyes flick from me to the ground. A sudden gush of pain jolted throughout my body. Ben just took a hit to my stomach. Again, my agile movement was far too slow and I had to change that if I was going to win. I moved my hands to his waist, seizing his arms, trapping them to his side. I pushed him further to the ground. "Better luck next time Ben." I said as all of a sudden I was the one on the ground, not Ben.

"Ruby you have to be careful about the cockiness." Ben was right I had to control it. If I ever did want to win a fight. Or even come close to doing well in a fight. Ben was good at telling me what I need to improve sometimes he can be rude about it but I understand what he is trying to do. It's very sweet of him, to be honest. I like who he is as a person. I honestly wish that we did not have to continue to hide from everyone. As all of us started to walk inside the sun finally but slowly was coming out and it looked beautiful.

Our parents would always have breakfast ready for us after finishing our training session. The parents don't get involved they just watch us ensure we are doing all the training that needs to be done. There are two tables one for the adults to sit at and one for us the kids. Due to the parents not wanting us to listen in their conversation. So, we get put far away from them in a completely different room. While they sit right next to the kitchen. So, I sit next to Ben and Lucy well in between them. Noah sits next to Lucy that never changes but it mainly goes girl, boy, girl the whole way around the table if being honest. It's just how it all works. However, Lucy and Noah just need to get together.

We all sit at the table like normal people eating breakfast very early in the morning. "Ruby, we need to help Noah." Ben whispered. I knew what he was talking about ad we definitely need to help them out somehow. "How about lock them in a room together?" I don't know if that would work but Ben is the smart one. So, whether he agrees or not that's up to him. "Yes that sounds perfect." Ben says quickly running to the kitchen.

I soon run after Ben to the kitchen but the time I did Ben wasn't moving and his plate was in the sink. I was very worried but concerned what the hell was going on. "Sweetie we were just telling Ben that it was your guys duty to look after everyone. You know how there back in town. We all think the team is ready to go on a mission but your last training session is tonight." Our parents say to both of us I look at ben and we are both as shocked as each other. We have been in this house our whole life how are we meant to live in the real world now.

That's why they made Ben go for his license this year. "Where are we going to go?" I finally say to break the silence." You guys are going to go traveling to see whether they follow you guys or not and if they attack you guys then attack back." Parents say very happy about their decision. "So we are bait." Ben said and thinking about it he was right. We were bait but of course our parents didn't say anything else after that.

Don't get me wrong I was done hiding but using the team as bait is not the best. We are better than that. Ben and I both know this. I grabbed ben's hand and dragged him out of the room to the others. "Guys listen up we have some news, so the parents have just told us we are going on out first mission." Ben said and everyone started to get excited. "guys but the mission is to..." Before I could finish Ben said as he grabbed my hand and took me upstairs to his bedroom.

Ben closed the door behind us so no one else could hear us but I still didn't understand what the hell was going on. "Ruby there is no point telling them about the bad news if they don't really need to know about it." He was right though do they need to know and what they don't know won't hurt them. Then there was a big hard knock at the door. I walked slowly to the door with the hand on the knob looking back at Ben to make sure it's okay to open the door. As he nodded I opened it up so see my best friend Curtis. "Hey sorry to bother you guys but we are all wondering if we are going on a trip what the rules are ect." Curtis tells us what the team is thinking. "Curtis we will be down there soon to tell you all what's going to go down just give as a second." I said as Curtis walks out the door and closes it behind him.

Once Curtis Has left the room Ben and I just make eye contact before I walk out of the room and go down stairs with the rest of the team. By the team I got down Ben wasn't far away from me. "So, I know I probably the youngest person in the group and I don't understand why they gave us the job but before we tell you guys what your roles are we need to wait until tonight after the last training session to figure out if we have chosen the right roles for everyone." I said as everyone stayed silent but nodded their heads. "Curtis, Lucy we need you guys to talk to you guys about something upstairs but the rest of you guys we will see later tonight." Ben said and I dint even know about this why would he want to talk to my sister and my other best friend. Is it because he may have a crush on my sister or maybe the fact that Curtis might. If anyone of them do I'm sorry but Noah and her are going to be the power couple.
