the following week was hard. kevin went to the hospital every day, but joaquin didn't wake up. he sat there for hours, talking to his boyfriend. he told him about school, his friends, the serpents.. anything he could be interested in hearing. after 8 days of talking to him, kevin gave up. he felt sad and lifeless without his boyfriend. the bullying in school got worse and he let it all get to him. he spent long nights crying and wishing he died. but he couldn't do it.. he had to stay strong. for joaquin.
on a wednesday afternoon, 26 days after joaquin's accident, he received a call from toni. "hi?", he said and sighed. "what's up, toni?" "hes waking up, kevin", she whispered. "they won't let us in. you have to come, fast."
kevin ended the call and jumped into his dads car. which technically wasn't legal but okay. he drove to the hospital as fast as he could and almost crashed into a street sign. eventually, he reached the hospital and jumped out of the car. he closed the door and ran towards the entrance. the doctor at the entrance nodded at him and smiled, he knew him from his earlier visits. kevin rushed into joaquin's room and sat down on the chair. he held his hands as joaquin opened his eyes. kevin smiled and joaquin looked at him confusedly.
