So, there's a person dealing with this, that and other.
If you were their counselor or if you were just them you might hear them use a metaphor of who's in the driver's seat to describe what they're going through.
If you know them a certain amount of if they've told you, you might also know that they're actively avoiding learning to drive because they're terrified of getting in a car accident, so the fact that they're using this metaphor of all things is ironic, but it's a perfect descriptor so they keep using it.
You might also know that they've been repeatedly told that if they're a careful driver they'll be fine, but they know this isn't how it works.
They're not the only driver on the road so there is no guarantee of safety....
but I digress.
That's not the main point here, that's not the question.
