Echo (A Skybrine Story): Book 1 in the Echo Series

Mitch's Past

Mitch's P.O.V

Sky called a meeting in 30 mins. I am walking down the longest hallway ever. But I stop and sat on the floor with my back on the wall. I hug my knees. I just can't think right now. I was suppose to protect Echo and now she is gone. I promised myself I wouldn't let what happen to our parents, happen again.  But it did. I feel like I lost everything. How am I suppose to smile when the person who makes me smile is gone? I couldn't live with myself knowing I failed Echo. But my friends kept me going. Sky said not to give up hope. But after 5 weeks, I am ready to give up hope. I remember when we were little. We did everything together before we met our friends. 

~Flashback~

"Hey Echo want to fight?"

"Sure." Echo said. She beat me everytime. It always bugged me. But after a while we got match. The fights got longer. She always knew when too stop fighting. I handed her a wooden sword. She was always so sweet and brave. 

"Beat ya!" She said. She is younger then me. But I learned alot from her about fighting.

"All man. I thought I had you this time." 

"Mitch, you learn more from defeat then victory." Echo said. I always wonder were she learn to fighting the first place. I have been wondering that for years.

"Hey I got you something."

"What is it?" Echo asked. I hand her it.

"Here. Happy Birthday." She took it. She unwrapped it. It was a hoodie that she has always wanted. A black hoodie with green along the edges and a teal pearl printed on the back. She put is on. It was a little big. She smiled. I save all my money to get her that. 

"Thank you Mitch!" She said as she hugged me. I hug her back. 

"Your welcome."

~End of Flashback~

That was when she turned 10. 6 years ago. She never took off that hoddie. When our parents died. I swore I would always protect her from Herobrine. 

~Flashback~

I went to bed early because I just got back from hunting. I was asleep when I heard a scream. I threw my blankets off. I never change cause I was too lazy to do it. I grab a sword. I run down the hall. Down the stairs. I see someone you will never what to met. Herobrine.

"ECHO!" Someone grab my shoulder. I was about to stab it when I realize it was my dad. He pulled me behind him next to Echo. I wrap Echo in my arms. Her hands are bleeding badly. Then she past out. It must have been from blood loss. I am still holding her. I won't let her go. Never. I wonder where Mom and Conner are at? I look around. I see them on the floor dead. I look at Herobrine. 

"What do you want?" Dad asked. He has his sword in his hands. Herobrine appears infront of Dad. 

"Her." Herobrine said pointing at Echo. 

"Echo. Why?" Dad asked. He couldn't be serious about giving Echo to Herbrine. He wouldn't.

"I have my reason. Now give me her!" Herobrine yelled. 

"NEVER!" Dad yelled. 

"Have it your way. I will get her one way or another." Herobrine said. He takes a sword out. Before my Dad could even react, Herobrine stab Dad. Dad falls on the floor. 

"No! Dad!" 

"I want you to see me kill you son, and take your daugther." Herobrine said.

"Mitch take Echo and run. Protect her!" Dad yelled. Dad stands up.

"But D-"

"No buts Mitch. RUN!" Dad yelled. I run out the door past Herobrine and Dad. I run down the path. I have Echo on my back. I run into a bacca all of a sudden. I look at him. I back up.

"Whoa slow down there." Bacca said. His eyes widen. He must have understood my problem. 

"Come on. Follow me. There is a hospital at the village. My name is Jerome." Jerome said. We ran down to the village. After Echo got out of the hospital I told her what happen. We stuck with Jerome for a week. Then we met Sky and the rest of our friends. 

~End of Flashback~

I never saw Herobrine after that. I was happy that I never saw him. But 5 weeks ago we did. Jerome understands why I am so protective of Echo. When I found out that Echo was gone. I broke down.

~Flashback~

I woke up in a hospital bed. I sit up. I look around. I see Sky in the bed next over. I could tell he was going to be alright. But where is Echo?

"Your awake." Jerome said. Ty and Jason come in behind him. 

"Where's Echo?" Nobody answers or looks at me. I stand up. I don't like this.

"Where's Echo?" 

"Mitch." Jerome starts.

"Jerome where is she?"

"You might want to sit down." Jerome said.

"No I am not sitting down. Answer me Jerome."

"Echo's missing." Jerome said.  I froze. What? My vision starts to blur. I can't see Jerome's, Ty's or Jason's face anymore.

"Mitch you okay?" Someone asked. I started to cry. I sink to my knees. Then I feel a pair of furry arms wrap around me. Then two more pairs of arms. 

~End of Flashback~

How could things get worse? I hear footsteps coming down the hallway. They stop infront of me. I didn't look up. I couldn't. Everyone has been there for me. I just want to be alone now. 

"Mitch, you okay?" They asked. It's Jason.

"No." I hear him slide down next to me. 

"Do you want to talk about it?" Jason asked. 

"Yes." I do need to talk to someone. I have not talked to someone since Echo disappear.

"What's wrong?" Jason asked. 

"Echo."

"Right. Tell me what you need to say." Jason said. 

"I feel like it's my fault she is gone."

"Mitch it's not your fault." Jason said. I look at him.

"Its not?"

"No, it not." He said as he help me up. He looked at me. 

Jason's P.O.V

"What could you have done? We were all knock out. Expect for Sky and Echo. When I woke up. Sky was in too much pain to even move. It's Herobrine fault that she is gone not you. So stop blaming yourself. What happen to the Mitch we all know and love? What happen to him? I can't see you like this anymore. Nobody can. So pick yourself up and don't give up on Echo.  You and I both know that Echo is smart and strong." Mitch has been like this for 5 weeks. I need to say something to him to get him back to the Mitch I know. 

"Thanks Jason. You always know what to say." Mitch said.

"Your welcome. You okay now?" I could take that as a yes. Because he smiled . I miss that smile. 

"Yep. Come on. We have 5 mins to get to the meeting." Mitch said as he ran down the hall.I ran after to him. Welcome back Mitch. We miss you.
