As I walk towards my dorm to somehow finish the pile of homework I've left, I scrunch up my nose and shook my head. This guy could be the exact same as Michael- actually, anyone in this whole school could be. I arrived at my room, shut the door, and took a hot shower, washing away the memories of the day. I wrap myself in my pink kimono my mother had given me, and sit down, finishing geography, math and English homework in record time. By then, it was eight. The knock on the door everyone expected had come. I opened it to find a small, plump lunch lady wheeling a rather large carriage of food. She handed me my food package, and then asked me, "Are you Catherine Diaz?"

"Yep," I said.

"Here you go." The lady handed me a small white envelope with my name written in neat sloping writing on the front.

"Thank you." I close the door and took my dinner to the table. I opened the package to see spaghetti bolognaise with veggies. I twirl some pasta around my fork as I opened the note.

**Dear Catherine,** it reads.

**I have written this note to reassure you that you are safe at this school for now. Keep lying low and you will do well. **

**From Principal Hawke**

I smiled, thanking her silently for her thoughtfulness. Apparently she was Mums friend, which explained her kindness. I polished off my spaghetti, chucked the container in the bin and went on Skype to talk to mum.

After our long boring conversation about how to keep safe how to stay safe and how I've been safe, I hopped into bed and tried to sleep, thinking my first day at school hadn't been that bad. I'd only kicked the most popular boy in the leg, beat him at karate and now apparently I've got to watch my back or else.

I woke up the next day feeling refreshed and completely ready for another day at school. I dressed, packed my bag, and went outside my room again, only to see Asher standing there waiting for me. Oh no.

"Hey," I said giving him a wave.

"Hey." Ash was in his school uniform. "Just wanted to make sure you got to class safely.”

I snorted, "You still believe that I'm going to get hurt? Calm down. I'm a big girl now." Then I looked at him with my eyebrows furrowed and asked, "why do you care so much anyway?'

He smirked and said mysteriously, "I have my reasons."

I wrinkled my nose and we walked down the hallway together. "So," I said, hooking my thumbs into my multi coloured backpack, "I heard some stuff about you."

"About what?" Ash said.

"Apparently you've been in fights often, been arrested and stuff."

Ash sighed. "Yeah."

"Why- didn't you want me to know about that?"

"I kind of wanted to make a fresh start with you." I stare at him and nod slowly.

"Anyway," I said brightly, "Look! We're here!"

"Yep, we are." Ash said, popping the p.       "Hey, come meet me at the dojo after school, okay?"

No harm in that right? "Sure." I beamed at him, and then went to sit with my friends.

"He-"

They all started to talk at once."Did Asher come and meet you in the morning? Cause like he's never walked into class with a girl. And you know-"

"Yesterday he said I have to watch my back since I am good at karate."

"Yesterday?! You met up yesterday?! Was it romantic? Was it like a date? Cause-"

"Calm down!" I commanded. "We just ate ice cream. And that's it. Nothing special."

The teacher walked in so we quickly stood behind our chairs and waited for her to tell us to sit down. She smiled and all of us, bright and bubbly as always, and told us to sit. Thankfully, I sat next to Joy, but I could still feel Ash’s eyes boring into my back. Through the whole lesson, my friends sent me notes with Asher and love hearts on it. Every time I crumpled it up with a menacing glare at the note-passer, but in the back of my mind, my feelings were turning into exactly that.
