A/N: I apologize for not updating this story for so long. I've been working on it slowly but life's many responsibilities and writer's block have taken their tolls. I'm currently in the process of moving from California to Oklahoma, which is hard work in and of itself but I've really missed writing this story and hope to update more regularly in the future. Anyways, I hope you enjoy this chapter! :)
It was dark when you finally got back. The headlights of the car illuminating the front of the house as it pulled into the driveway. "I had a really good time with you today." You said, smiling at him from your seat. He smiled back at you before getting out and opening your door for you. "I had a good time too." He said softly, helping you out of the car and taking your hand in his. "So, back to Robot City tomorrow. Are you nervous?" You asked as the two of you walked hand in hand to the front door. Rodney looked as if he were contemplating your question for a moment before answering. "A little. I've wanted this for so long and now that it's finally happening, I don't know how to feel." He admitted.
"Don't worry, I know you'll be great! If you can take down Ratchet and help restore Bigweld Industries then you can certainly handle working your dream job." You said, giving his hand a gentle squeeze. He smiled at you and leaned down to kiss your cheek. You felt your face heat up under his loving gaze and you couldn't help but grin. "You're so cute." Rodney whispered in your ear. "Oh shut up!" You teased with a giggle as he opened the door for you and led you inside the house. The lights were still on and you could hear the sound of the T.V. coming from the living room. You closed the door silently behind you and let go of Rodney's hand, moving towards the source of the noise to see Mr. and Mrs. Copperbottom still awake and watching the news on their small T.V. set.
Herb noticed you first and smiled when he saw you come in. "Hey, did you two have a good time?" He asked. "We had a great time together! Rivet Town is so beautiful!" You said with a smile, looking to Rodney who smiled sweetly back at you. "I'm so glad you both had a good time!" Lydia said and you could tell that she really meant it. You were touched that Herb and Lydia were so quick to accept you for who you were instead of judging you because you were different. In town you had noticed several bots giving you odd looks but most of them didn't seem to mind or care what you looked like. Suddenly your attention was distracted by Bigweld's face on the screen. "Hey, look, it's Bigweld!" You said, pointing excitedly. You sat down on the couch and Rodney sat down beside you. It had seemed that while you were out today, Bigweld had been interviewed by the local news network. He was answering questions about where he had been and what he planned to do next but what really caught your attention was his reaction to questions about you.
"(Y/n) is a human from another world and I owe so much to her and Rodney. She played a major role in helping me regain my company, not to mention my dignity. I don't believe that because she is different she is worth less than any of us. Humans have always fascinated me and it's been an honor to be able to meet (y/n) and get to work alongside her. As long as she wants to stay here she will always have a job at Bigweld Industries. I always say you can shine no matter what you're made of and in her case that is especially true. She is an incredibly bright, kind, and talented young woman and I'm proud to call her my friend." The kindness in Bigweld's voice as he spoke about you brought tears to your eyes. You had no idea that he thought those things about you.
Rodney put his arm around you and gave your shoulders and excited squeeze. "Did you hear that, (y/n)?! Bigweld wants to give you a job! How exciting is that?! I'm so proud of you!" He said happily, kissing your forehead. Herb and Lydia expressed similar sentiments, minus the kissing, of course. This was one of the happiest moments of your life! To be able to work at Bigweld Industries along with Rodney was more than you had ever expected. Your parents were going to flip when they learned about everything that had happened to you and all your new opportunities that you had in this world. You hoped that they would flip with joy but you could always worry about how, and when, you would tell them later, right now you wanted to bask in the moment. A glorious new life lay ahead of you and you couldn't wait to experience it all!
