When I got to the course, the place was packed with all fraternities and sororities alike at this university.
Each Greek house had a tent set up for all there players to wind down.
There were four courses set up today.
One was a maze. Everyone participating had to try and be the first group out of the maze. It was groups of six people from each house that went in. You don't have to stick together, you just all go in and split in hopes one of you finishes before any other person from another house. It was a pretty large maze that took up the majority of the grass space given on campus for it. So we needed plenty of bodies for a fair chance. If you win, then you'd get 10 points. 5 to second place.
The more ahead you get at the beginning of the week the better.
The second one was a barrel race. One person had to be the wheel barrel and the other had to hold you up by the ankles. The catch was, the course was long and went in every which direction. And you had to try and be the first to the finish line. It actually was really hard because the distance was far. Luckily it didn't matter if you fell, it only mattered that you had the strength to keep going and the endurance. 10 points first. 5 to second, that's how all the races were.
Thirdly, there was a potato sack relay. It was a straight way down the football field. First to finish line, winner. That one you really wanted the right person doing it. Luckily we had three ladies to pick from that did track and field.
Lastly, you had the tug of war contest. Five people of your choice from your house teamed against another. Whoever won went on to play another winning team, and so forth until there was one lasting champion that tugged the hardest. It tested your upper strength and leg strength and you need your strongest, most fit people.
It all sounded difficult, but it was all in good fun. And whoever had the most points by the end of the week would be named in a charity donation the university sets up for the year that goes to children's hospitals. All of us individually named as well, which would look good on applications in the future. There was never too much charity work you can do to help the people that need it most. It just was a plus that it looked good to prospective jobs one day. It felt good helping out and being able to have fun doing it.
That was what Greek was half about. Doing good and having fun doing it. Obviously sisterhood and brotherhood was a large part as well.
That's where all the tents came into factor also.
In the front someone manned the desk that sold bidding tickets. It was all very legal and done through the university so that you were donating to the hospital for tickets. The tickets were made for each event, house coded, and people could bet on who won each one and would end with the most points as well.
The prize for whoever won the bets was going to throw the annual Greek week party. That kicked off as soon as the last day of events was finished and all winners were announced. It was a high honor in the Greek system if you get to throw this party at your house. Its a lavish night that brought every Greek house together before the school year truly started.
It was all so exciting being in the Greek system. Well, usually when people all got along and there wasn't any drama.
For me, that wasn't true. It had happened as soon as I had stepped back on campus it felt like.
The first course was going to begin in 5 minutes, the person Manning the loud speaker announced.
Luckily the maze would be easy in the sense I just had to walk around and find a way out. I definitely wouldn't be doing the barrel race, as the barrel at least. In my defense, they did expect the majority of the house to participate, so it wasn't like I was expected to do all the events. As president I did have to participate in some of it, and definitely had to be present for all of them.
