In the beginning, life and death were equal. The Goddess of Life, Dura, created all mortal beings, and thus she received their praise and adoration. The mortal's actions made Annih, God of Death fly into a jealous rage. He acted out of turn and concocted his own form of life - the Hypogeans. He ordered his minions to wreak havoc on Esperia, extinguishing all of Dura's creation. Dura lead the rebellion into battle against the Hypogeans, however the onslaught was horrific, and even Dura perished in the war. But not before she managed to expel the scourge to the barred gate. The last of her power was channeled into seven artifacts which could be used by her mortals to protect the world should the need ever again rise. Now, thousands of years later, the Hypogeans have broken out of their prison. This time, no Goddess will come to save Esperia.
