Wolf above
She glanced down at me- it was an unreadable look, her eyebrows shot up and the corners of her mouth curled into the tiniest smile. She stood there above me giving me a look, I detected a tinge of humor in it, humor?! I thought. How could she have such a smirk on her face after what just happened?
"Food!" She exclaimed in a tone that I could only call egomaniac. She rubbed her stomach and smirked even wider now. Perhaps if she looked normal I'd consider her to be joking, but she looked anything but ordinary and who knew what she really was thinking, so I did the only thing I could think of in that moment of complete terrors- run. My arm was throbbing so badly it had begun to go numb, blood had now taken up half of my forearm, staining it a dark shade of pink. But what did that matter, for all I knew there was a cannibalistic psychopath behind me and I needed my feet to run not my arm. I took off running while cradling my injured arm at the same time, using my dominant arm as a shield to it. She was undoubtedly much faster than I was and I knew that my cause must've been hopeless... but I kept it running as fast and as far as my tiny legs could allow me anyways. At first, it was only me running- I didn't know what she was doing, planning her savage feast perhaps? Imagining how I'll taste cooked or boiled? My mind traveled back to the task at hand rather than fathoming my grueling death: surviving. I didn't even know where I was running to, all I knew was that I had to go. Then the horrifying sound of gravel crunching rang in my ears, I whipped my head around to see her beginning to run up to me. To chase me.
"Wait I was-" her tone had changed, and she sounded far more serious, however, I didn't wait for her to finish whatever she had to say, I took off sprinting as fast as I possibly could. Back at school we'd play running games in the courtyard, I was never the fastest but I was up there, maybe now that would even save my life. My eyes darted around urgently surveying the valley, for a place to go- or at least a plan. The valley walls were at least twenty feet tall and mostly made up boulders and rock on either side there was even a large display of caves to hide in if I made it... the boulders went on, until a certain point where the rock disintegrated and turned into soil and root, I knew that I could slip away into the forest looking over the valley floor; that is if I ever made it that far with my arm the way it was. Sitting behind me was a ridge appearing diligently, but I considered it off limits because I was afraid to step near the train wreck. I'd have gone further on my analysis of my surroundings but I heard the nearing footsteps of her and decided to go for the boulders. Timidly I found a large rock and started climbing upward- there was no way I could outrun or outclimb her, I was doomed, doomed that is until I recalled a certain bible lesson from school. A lesson about an underdog slaying a giant- with a rock. There were many rocks scattered around the larger boulders, I found around one, the size of my palm I reached for it, instantly regretting using my weak arm and transferred it to my dominant arm. Like I'd seem many older boys do, I aimed the rock expertly at her forehead and hurled it towards her, as soon as it left my arm I continued to climb which was more like stepping because of my injury. I heard the rock thrash against a pile of rocks surely missing her head and only having wasted my time.
"Stop- that was a joke!" She hollered, annoyed this time. Was she telling the truth? I couldn't be sure so I didn't stop and I climbed higher and higher and higher, I could see the soil and an exit plan but then-
I stepped on a loose stone and lost my balance-
And I tumbled down
Down
Down
Past the girl and many boulders
Hitting myself harder and harder each time I collided with a rock.
I fell until I was laying 20 feet below where I stood only seconds ago, Now I was lying with crusting blood snaking across on my arm, a bruised back and the wind knocked out of me leaving me heaving for air. The girl approached me cautiously before offering me her hand in a peaceful gesture.
"I won't hurt you" By now it was certain that I'd lost- so I took her arm and allowed her to pull me to my feet. She held me up and spoke words I didn't understand I was tired and scared, and alone, and sad, and injured, and-
"We need to go!" Her voice held so much certainty as she stared at the sky. She handed me my suitcase- which I didn't even know I dropped- she swooped up a suitcase of her own which hadn't fallen too far from her.
"Huh?" I muttered idiotically glancing at her confused, a drop of rain hit my face and I looked up following her gaze to see a dark sky.
"Do you have any of that running energy left?" The annoyance was still clear in her voice without waiting for a response she turned from me and started running full speed towards a dark cave.
"Great let's go! Follow me!" She had to scream over the sound of rolling thunder. A lightning bolt streaked across the sky, and after a moment's hesitation, I followed her through the forming storm.
