"Mom!" My 16 year old son, Foster, ran into the loft yelling. Currently I was in the kitchen preparing for dinner. He suddenly stopped on the other side of the breakfast bar, right in front of me. "I have a date. Mom. I. Have. A. Date."

"Hello to you too, hon." I say, one eyebrow raised.

"Gah, did you not hear what I just said mother. This a huge deal."

I chuckle and put my hands up in a fake surrender. I reply, "Okay. Okay. So, who's the special lady? What's she look like."

"Her name is Selena, and basically every guy wants her. But I got her." He said smirking proudly and walking to the fridge.

"Wonderful, honey. Wait, isn't she your sisters friend? By the way, where is your sister?"

"She got a ride home with someone else."

"Okay, so I'm guessing I only have to make dinner for your sister, dad and me?"

"About that...It's a double date." He said, taking a bowl of cubed fruit from the refrigerator.

"With your sister?" I ask confused.

"Yeah. She has a boyfriend. His name is Zach something. He's the one giving her a ride today." He then looks at me, smirks, and raises an eyebrow, and says, "He's a singer." Then stuffs his mouth with cantaloupe.

I then just look him in the eyes and say,
"Don't stuff your face." At that time Derek walks down the stairs, with slightly moist hair and walks into the kitchen. "Derek," I say, "our son has a date tonight."

Derek smiles a little and looks over at Foster. His smile drops the slightest when he notices the teenager stuffing his face with fruit. "It's not gonna last long if he continues eating like that." Derek said, jokingly disgusted. Foster mockingly laughed and rolled his eyes.

"So, Derek, what should we do tonight? The twins have dates, so we'll hav-", then Derek interrupted.

"Both of them?"

"That's what I said, isn't it?"

"Mallory has a date? Where is she anyway? Why isn't she home? Foster where is your sister?" Derek quickly.

"Calm down dad. She got a ride from her boyfriend." Foster said poking at his fruit.

"Wha- Boyfriend? Shouldn't she be home by now? And why, son, why did you let someone else take her?" Derek raised his arms questionably.

"Because, father, at the end of school she came up to me and said that she has a ride, and then ran off. I didn't have time to comprehend what was happening so I just left. I didn't think it was that big."

"Then why aren't they here?" Derek was starting to get mad, so I intervened.

"Calm down, Derek. Maybe they're just outside the building." I said grabbing his hand and pulling him to the huge window in the loft. We look out the window to see Mallory and this 'Zach' guy. They were sitting on the hood of his car just talking and laughing. Mallory does look happy in this moment. What I didn't know was that Derek had walked away from behind me. I turn and see Derek storming toward the door and I chase after him. Derek was now getting down the stairs really fast, so by the time I was on the bottom floor Derek was already at the two teenagers. As he was about to speak I interrupted him.
