Your eyes opened to the soft clopping of horses feet and warm feeling of someone's hand running through your hair. You stretched out your legs and scolded yourself softly at the imaginative dreams you'd been having lately.
Bunkers? Swamps? Bugs? Kings and brides?
All of it was blasphemous to be happening in real life. In a moment you would look up to see your mother playing with your hair. After that, you would go greet Craden on one of his patrols. At least, that's what you thought you'd do until you saw the delicate pale face with the crystalline blue eyes. With a jolt you stumbled backwards into the other side of the carriage momentarily shocking the horse. Taravim laughed at your little display.
"My bride, what shocks you so? You should be happy to see your husband on this grandiose day."
In your shocked state you could not speak to the king. Your body, instead, took to shaking and shivering as you shuffled away further and further from the blonde haired man. Your eyes every now and then would glance out of your side of the window making you contemplate whether to jump out now when he was least expecting it.
No...that would be dumb. He'd catch you in an instant. Mustering up all of your courage you finally regained your ability to speak.
"T-Taravim was it? I'm sorry, but I've never met you before in my life and I think I'd know if I was going to be married to a king. This...this must all be some silly mistake so if you don't mind I would like to go back home now."
For a split second you thought that the kings eyes seemed clouded, but it was so fast that it must've just been you. The king chuckled at your timid state, slightly annoying you as you were very serious in what you had just said. You did wanna go home. You wanted to go back to mama and papa and everyone else in the village. God, you were starting to wish that you had never entered Birchwood in the first place. Taravim took a piece of your hair and twirled it between two delicate fingers as if he had all the time in the world.
"My love, there has been no mistake. You have belonged to me since a very long time ago and I plan to make due on the promise your village made with my parents."
He brought your hand up to his lips and kissed it delicately.
"Don't you think that we should enjoy our time together now as husband and wife?"
The kings hand went to your hips rubbing softly. That clouded look entered his eyes once again, but this time it was laced with something else. His eyes focused on your pale and chapped lips giving you a sense of unease. Before he could think to do anything more a tap came to the carriages door causing the man to scowl. In a voice unbefitting of his delicate features Taravim growled out to the disturber.
"What is it?! Can you not see how you're bothering me and my wife?"
Taravim pushed himself away from you, giving you enough time to get away from the door before it opened. Once it did, it revealed a familiar face that you had not expected to see again. You couldn't tell if you should be happy or sad enough to cry out in despair. Instead you said nothing. Taravim snarled at the sight of the man, but regained his composure once he saw how it affected you. With tight lips he spoke to the simple guard.
"What is it Craden? What is so important that you have to interrupt a man and his wife whilst they are busy?"
Taravim's voice was daring, as if he were spurning on the guard to say something that would end up with him getting his tongue cut out in the process. Craden did not budge as he kept a neutral look upon his face.
"Queen Annalise wants to see the lovely bride to be. She would like to speak to you before that however to discuss some important means. I'm sure it will not take too long my king."
