Summary- During volume 4, Eiri shows her true self to her little sister Kagura and Kyousuke when she tries to protect Kyousuke from Kagura.

For the first time in her life, Eiri Akabane was forced to make a difficult decision, one that could either end smoothly or haunt her forever. Right now, all she could ask herself was, how in God's name did she get in this situation?

Currently, her little sister, Kagura, was threatening her that she will kill Kyousuke Kamiya, her best friend, if she does not kill the little girl that Eiri is currently cradling. Her best friend, Kyousuke Kamiya, or an innocent bystander.

Kagura smirked. "Mother sent me on this mission. Surely, you must have realized why, right? I am giving you an ultimatum designed to force you to kill a person for the first time ever: Kill that little girl, and Kyousuke lives. If you succeed, then the path for you to become a full fledged assassin will be much easier, and you will have made the Akabane name proud. Father would be proud."

Eiri clenched her fists, grinding her teeth at the mention of her deceased father whom she looked up to and loved more than anyone as a child.

Kyousuke gulped, hoping Eiri would not comply. Deep down, he knew her to be a kindhearted girl. He trusts her more than anyone.

"However, if you fail, your friend here will become unrecognizable once I'm done with him."

Kyousuke scowled. He had heard enough. "Try me, bitch! Eiri, please don't listen to her. I-"

Before Kyousuke had time to react, Kagura, who was standing 10 yards away, was right in front of him. She punched him with the butt-end of her fan, making Kyousuke's eyes go wide. He collapsed and coughed in pain.

"No!" Eiri shrieked.

She had to start questioning herself. Why did she care about Kyousuke so much? Why did it hurt to see him in pain? Eiri knew that she wasn't being honest with herself. Deep down, she already knew the answer, but she was not willing to admit it.

Kyousuke dug his hands into the dirt and grass as he got to his knees. Launching himself forward, he attempted to tackle Kagura, catching her by surprise with his insane strength. She nearly fell over. Nearly.

Kagura slammed her fan into his head, making Kyousuke grunt in pain. She stood her ground and managed to loosen his grip on her, enough for her to push herself off of him and jump back. "You're strong, but you are too slow!"

She started going on an all out attack, punching, kicking, and throwing Kyousuke all around, too fast for him to process. He rolled down the grassy hill and the back of his head slammed against the trunk of a large tree. He felt dizzy and exhausted.

Eiri closed her eyes tight. She couldn't stand it anymore. She rushed in and pushed Kagura to the side, but not before Kagura could get a powerful jump kick in, striking Kyousuke's forehead.

"Stop it!" Eiri shrieked.

She immediately hugged Kyousuke, shielding him from any further harm. Tears streamed down her cheeks.

Kyousuke, eyes half-lidded and breathing heavily, took note of this. Even when she is sad or upset in any way, she still looks stunningly gorgeous, he thought.

Kagura's eyes widened, bewildered by the actions of her older sister. "What are you doing?! I thought you said you wanted to become an assassin and avenge Father's death!"

Eiri sniffled as she sobbed, turning to look at her little sister while still gently holding Kyousuke. "That was something I said out of pure emotion at the time. I was a little girl who lost her father, the man I cared for more than anything! But now that I have been forced into this situation, one that is changing me for the better, I will be more honest with myself and with other people."

She took a moment to wipe her tears before speaking, her voice still trembling with both heartbreak and determination. "I am in love with Kyousuke Kamiya! I now have something to live for. I love him and want to spend the rest of my life with him!"

Kyousuke's eyes widened a little, but for some reason, he was not shocked to hear this. Eiri is his best friend. They rely on each other more than anyone, and she has helped him more times than he can count. "Eiri..."

Kagura lowered her fan, shocked beyond belief. "I do not understand. What are you saying?"

Eiri blushed a little. "I do not want to become an assassin. What I want is to be a normal girl who goes to a school and falls in love, living her days in peace. I hate killing. It is not that I cannot kill because of my hesitation. It is simply because I do not wish to ever hurt another person." She squeezed Kyousuke, who was blushing despite his injuries.

Kagura closed her eyes and sighed, frowning. "Fine. Do as you wish. I will report this to Mother, but do not be afraid. She will not force you to become an assassin, and she will respect your wishes. She loves us very much, even if she doesn't show it often. I apologize, sister. I care about you, and I hope you can forgive me for being so cruel." Kagura turned around and walked back up the hill, disappearing from sight and leaving the two alone, but not before leaving a first aid kit.

Eiri sat next to Kyousuke and treated his wounds, dabbing an alcohol swab on his forehead. "I'm just glad you're okay."

Kyousuke stayed silent and waited for her to finish. She placed two band aids that crossed over each other on his forehead, cupping his cheeks, and proceeded to give him a kiss on his sweaty forehead. While she put the medical supplies back in the first aid kit, Kyousuke looked at her. "Did you mean it when you said you love me?"

Eiri blushed, but she sighed as she turned to face him. "... Y-Yes. I love you a lot."

She squirmed nervously, looking up at him and then back down repeatedly. Kyousuke couldn't help but find this adorable. He sat up and scooted close to her, surprising his best friend by pulling her into a sudden hug. He smiled while she had a surprised look on her face that he couldn't see. "I love you too, Eiri Akabane. I love you more than anything."

She blushed, but she smiled with her eyes closed as she hugged him back. "... Thank you."

For once in her life, Eiri felt like her honesty and rare selfishness paid off for the better. From here on out, she felt like she had the strength to fight a thousand men, and Kyousuke felt the same way now that they are together.
