|Story 2| [ narrated by my aunts friend's cousin]

We live in Hawaii on the island of Oahu, where strange things always happens at night. One night, it was either the ending of the year 2010 or beginning of 2011, I had just picked up my one-year-old daughter from my mom's and we headed straight home because it was really late and I had to work the next day.

That night, my husband went straight to bed and I stayed up a little while longer trying to put my daughter to sleep. After endless tries, I gave in and thought, Well, maybe if I turn the light off she will just knock right out, being that she was still sleeping with us.

I woke up at maybe 1 or 2 in the morning to my daughter sitting up and laughing; it almost sounded like she was playing with someone. I sat up, trying to grab her... and then I looked over to the other side of the room, and what I saw freaked the living life out of me.

I saw a shadow creeping, just like the Grinch creeps in and out of peoples homes, like tiptoeing and hands curled up like a velociraptor. I know this sounds funny, but that night it was not funny at all. I felt like those cartoon characters that turn white upon seeing a ghost -- like I literally felt the color of my skin leaving me.

I rushed over to turn on my lamp and at the same time waking my husband up. By the time the light came on, which was like in a blink of an eye, the shadow completely disappeared. Like one minute it was creeping and then the next it was gone.

It was so surreal that every single time I tell this story, it creeps me out all over again. Or the person I'm telling the story to freaks out and tells me to shut up because it's freaking them out, too. Ever since that night, I vowed to never go to sleep before any of my kids, and it has been that way ever since.
