9- |Mysterious Basement|

Story 9 [narrated by Drew L.]

Back in 2011, when I was 13 years old, my dad and his girlfriend and her two kids moved in together. We rented a house in a slightly shadier part of town, not too far from St. Louis, and right off the bat it felt off.

A number of things happened often in that basement. First, the light in the closet would turn on and off by itself. Dad would always get on our cases about leaving it on until one day, when no one else was home, he turned it off only to find it back on again. Second, we would frequently hear footsteps going down the stairs, only to never go back up.
I was in the bathroom and was in the process of washing my hands when the doorknob jiggled. I glanced at it apathetically. I was drying my hands and was reaching for the doorknob to open it for him when the doorknob turned -- actually turned and swung open. At that point I'd become pretty much unresponsive to ghostly happenings. It wasn't anything new.

There's definitely something out there -- something we don't know a whole lot about. Ghosts are all around us, all the time. I know this for a fact. It's true whether or not you choose to believe it.
