A little girl awoke in her little bed looking up dreamily at the white ceiling of her bedroom. As her vision cleared she noticed a woman next to her smiling. She had long black hair that cascaded past her shoulders. Her smile seemed to stop time with its magnificent beauty. She was my mother. And my name is Kage Kureyasha.

My mother smiled and the door opened to reveal my father. His ocean-blue eyes seemed to captivate your gaze and keep you there for a million years.

I giggled and Laughed as my mother tickled and teased me. Then, they left for me to get dressed.

I ran down the stairs, eager to grab a bite of mother's delicious cooking and get to my first day of school. I just turned 5 and I couldn't wait to meet new friends at kindergarten.

"Good morning, honey" my mother's melodious voice said. "Breakfast is almost ready. I can't believe my baby is finally going to school!" She grabbed each chubby cheek of mine and squeezed them so hard that I thought she would rip them off my face. Soon a sizzling sound made its way to our ears and smoke began to form. She ran towards her pan of eggs and rice.

I gobbled up my food and headed towards my new school but not before meeting my first 'friends'.

I soon saw the huge white school, it's windows gleaming in the sun's light. Behind me I felt a nudge as I fell.

I looked up to see a band of tall, some pudgy, girls with menacing looks on their face. "Watch where you're going—..." they seemed to notice the white horns protruding from the top of my head. "Weirdo..."one whispered. They walked away giving me sideways stares.

I picked myself back up and held my head high. 'I wouldn't get down about these girls! There's going to be meanies but there are goodies, too!' I thought. But I was well wrong. I learned that lesson to the fullest. The world is a cruel place.

As I headed to the school's entrance I was met by others. They just stared at me and my white cat-like horns. I didn't fear them though. I didn't fear anyone!

I paraded inside the school and looked in awe at each older kid wearing a uniform. I couldn't wait to grow up! Just a year away I could be one of them in elementary.

But right now I was in kindergarten. I had to wait a little while before I could walk with the big kids. I turned left down the hall and met my class room.

Even though others would have thought it small and little and a little crowded, I thought it was wonderful. I smiled as I went in but received worried looks and cold stares.

I sat down in a chair and watched others move to new desks that weren't close to me. My smile dimmed but I hadn't given up. I moved over one desk hoping to make a new friend but they scorched over. I saw out of the corner of my eye a girl whisper to another. I could hear everything that she said and it broke my heart.

I sat back at my seat with a broken heart. Tears stung my eyes at her words. She said I was a creep, horned demon, the devil's child. What was wrong with me? I wanted to shout it out to their faces. But the teacher walked in.

"Hello, class" she looked over her students, "I am your new teacher, Mrs. Kus—..." she finally noticed me at the right side of her classroom, along the windows. She began again but still kept her eyes on me, "Mrs. Kushiyama. I hope you enjoy..." She drifted off while staring at my horns and cold eyes. Again she started, "your time here at our school..." Mrs. Kushiyama took one last look at me and turned towards the board to write her name.

Class went by like a whir. I didn't pay attention during most but the whispers always caught it. They seemed to eat at my heart more and more by each new tumor they made. The 'friends' I wished for were never going to happen. It was a dream not meant to come true.
