Tom's 3rd Person POV

The human was the first to fall asleep, long before the two aliens had let sleep even cross their minds. As soon as the soft breaths of the girl evened out, Thomanikon switched back into his native Maxmirian language, just in case the girl woke up and overheard their conversation.

Tom sighed and stared for a while at Jacurbion.

"I'm scared," he basically whispered.

Jacurbion nodded sympathetically, "Me too."

Thomanikon had been out of his element for well over a week now. This was the first time he would be able to talk to someone without guilt, being able to truly let all of his fears and worries off his chest. Of course, he had wanted to talk to Y/N about it, but he didn't want to worry her more. She had already been through a lot, and he just wanted her to feel safe. If Thomanikon showed her his fear, she would be scared. And he definitely didn't want that.

He let his demeanor fall in front of one of his most loyal friends. They had known each other growing up, and Thomanikon remembers the joy he felt when the King first approved his choice of pilots once he turned sixteen. Jacurbion had been there through it all.

Thomanikon put his face into his hands and let tears flow out of his eyes. "Gosh, Jacurbion, I just... they are going to separate us again...and what if...what if they hurt her again?"

He tried to keep his voice down; he didn't want to wake the sleeping human.

"It's going to be fine, Thomanikon," Jacurbion replied earnestly, even though he knew and Tom knew that they both had no idea what would happen.

Tom was disgusted by the thought of Hazzion or Zenira laying their hands on Y/N. If they used the E.E.D again... Tom was going to puke.

Thomanikon stood and started pacing the room silently. "What about Rehnixa? Explain to me what happened better."

Before, Jacurbion had only given a brief description of what had happened to his co-pilot, his girlfriend. Now, it was Jacurbion's turn to grow distressed.

He took a deep sigh and stared at the Duke. "At first, we didn't know what was happening. We heard screaming and chaos at first. She told me she would go check it out, and as she was leaving the cockpit, a guard entered."

He took another deep breath and clasped his hands together before continuing. "The guard told her she was supposed to stay in there. But, Rehnixa asked about you, and the guard told us you weren't in charge anymore. That's when she tried to move past the guard, but he pushed her back. So, she kept fighting. I tried to stop her, but I was flying the ship at the same time. Eventually, three other guards came in and just started beating her."

Jacurbion's eyes teared up, and Thomanikon knew that this was going to be a long evening. If they were willing to just beat up a pilot, what would they do to Y/N when she was alone?

"I tried to stop them, Thomanikon, I-I truly did." Jacurbion was a mess now. Tom walked over and tried to comfort his emotional friend.

"How is she doing now?" Thomanikon asked, concerned about Rehnixa as well.

"She's better, but still recovering. I think they are keeping her in a cell somewhere, but I haven't talked to her. This is just what they are telling me."

Thomanikon didn't like the sound of that. Why in the world had they separated his pilots? Why wasn't she here with the rest of them?

Suddenly, in the middle of his thoughts, soft whimpers came from across the room. Y/N, who had been fast asleep before, was tossing in her sleep from another nightmare. Jacurbion looked at Tom, confused, but Tom only sighed and went and sat next to her. He ran his hand through her hair, and whispered sweet things in her ear, trying to coo her back to sleep peacefully. Eventually, the girl, now feeling comforted, went back to sleep and would have no memory of this in the morning.

Tom would do it again the next time, just as he had done six times without her knowledge during the last time she slept.

"I can't believe they used the E.E.D on her," Jacurbion commented. "That's so messed up in so many ways. Especially since she's not Maxmirian."

Tom nodded and stared at the sleeping girl for a moment. "The poor girl doesn't even understand how amazing she is. She's confused as to why she's so weak, but she's actually handling it pretty well."

Thomanikon could rant about the ethics used by Hazzion and Zenira all day, all year if he really wanted to. But, for now, he had to ask something of Jacurbion. Something that he would have to keep secret from Y/N. Something... that was going to break his heart.

"Jacurbion, you are my most loyal friend. I have depended on you for much. And now, I'm depending on you saving Y/N, which will save our planet." Thomanikon began.

Jacurbion nodded. "Of course. Don't worry, the plan will work."

Tom shifted and said, "I have no doubt in that. I trust you will complete the task. It's just... I think we should change the plan a little."

Jacurbion looked confused and stared at Thomanikon.

"Why? What do you mean?"

Thomanikon began slowly, "The plan has been for you to rescue Y/N and bring her to the palace. Yes?"

Jacurbion nodded.

"I now want you to take her home to Earth," Thomanikon said staring into his eyes seriously.

The alien pilot was even more bewildered now. "But, why? Aren't you going to tell her?"

Tom sighed as tears formed in his eyes once again. They were hardly noticeable, but Jacurbion saw right through them. This was tearing Tom apart.

"She's my weakness, Jacurbion. I can't stand the idea of her getting hurt, and Hazzion knows that. As long as Hazzion is free, Y/N is in danger. But, we can't tell her. I promised..." Tom's voice cracked. "I promised to show her Maxmirius and that we would meet back together after you saved her. She's stubborn and she not going to want to leave with you."

Suddenly, Tom grabbed Jacurbion's shoulders. His body language presented desperation. He felt it throughout his entire being. He was desperate. He was desperate for her safety.

"Please, Jacurbion. I need you to promise me that you'll take her home safely."

Jacurbion paused, looking into his friend's eyes. "Are you sure this is what you want, Thomanikon? She's going to be angry with you."

Tom sighed, "I'd much rather her be angry with me if that means she's safe."

Jacurbion nodded. "Then, I will do what you have asked. I will return Y/N to Earth as soon as you and the others leave the ship."

Tears flew freely down Tom's face. "Thank you."

Tom meant it too.

Although it was destroying him, the idea of being apart, he knew it was the best thing to do. Just in case something went wrong, Thomanikon didn't want Y/N anywhere near the trouble. She was too special, too valuable.

But, he knew this could also break Y/N's trust with him.

Tom knew that Y/N was the most important person to him, which made him angry. It would be easier to stop Hazzion and Zenira if Y/N hadn't been in the equation in the first place. But, she was. And now, she meant the universe to him.

How had she made him get so attached so soon? Tom could never remember a time before now that he had been so comfortable with someone, not even his own brothers. It made him wonder if he was making a mistake by sending you home.

He knew deep down that going forward was a mystery. If Jacurbion was able to get Y/N home to her quiet little Earth, then everything else didn't matter, even though he knew it should. It was too unpredictable, and Tom couldn't risk Y/N's life. If Hazzion got his hands on him, Hazzion could kill him. Or, perhaps others would betray him, and be would be held hostage for years.

No matter what happened, his heart was in pieces. He'd be away from Y/N.

But, Y/N would be safe, and that was worth it for him.
