Ok so SPOILERS do not read if you have not seen endgame. Y'all know what happens to Steve at the end and he's old and super out of character and here is my theory.
When Steve went back in time to return the stones, and presumably went to post-WWII to return the space stone and would have seen Peggy, instead of stealing his own identity and living out is life while his other self (who we know exists because there can be multiple in one timeline as shown earlier in the movie) is frozen in ice, he finds his frozen self, gets him out of the ice, and tells him everything he can about how to rescue Bucky, how he knew, etc. He also tells him about his experiences in the future and about his good friend Tony who would always tell him about living his life and telling this version of himself that he should live his. That version of Steve then goes and rescues Bucky, gets his dance with Peggy, and lives his life out in that timeline normally.
Now here's the part I need help with is explaining how normal Steve gets back to the main timeline, why he was delayed, and why alternate Steve is in it now, (giving Sam the shield). Help me out here guys. Per favore.
