Abortion - The medical process of ending a pregnancy so it doesn't result in the birth of a child.

Recently, there has been a lot of controversy over whether women should be allowed to have an abortion for various reasons. But in 2017, approximately 200 thousands took place in England and Wales. And the total amount of abortions for England and Wales has increased by 255% since 1969. What do you think this tells us? That there are women who want and maybe even need to abort a child. Maybe because the child was an accident, the result of rape or the child may even have a medical condition that will only harm itself and the mother further into the future. Today I would like to talk to you to give my opinion and resolutions for this worldwide issue.

Let's start with one of the main topics within this debate. Abortion is murder. But is it really? I believe that life starts when the foetus could survive on its own outside the womb, so it wouldn't be able to live if something were to happen to the mother anyway. In my opinion, the quality of life overpowers the sanctity of life. And if that means that the mother would need to abort the child (which is not yet fully living) to achieve her best quality of life, then so be it. I find it difficult to understand why it's so wrong for a woman to want to do that when it won't harm you.

A woman named Ali decided to speak out about her experience and how burdensome her life would've been, had she given birth to the child. She works a full-time job as a night shift nurse and states that she would be struggling to find childcare at night and would not be the nurse she is today. This goes to show that, while she went against the public's opinion, Ali can help more people stay healthy and cared for.

According to 2017 statistics, most abortions occur during the first trimester of pregnancy (12-14 weeks). Which is also when I believe is the only acceptable time to go through with the procedure and it's both safer and cheaper. There are two different ways to medically abort a child: before 10 weeks, medication such as pills can be used, and after 10 weeks a surgical procedure will have to happen. But I think this event should only occur if something life threatening or harmful could happen to the mother or child.

Now... Here are where my thoughts take place. In 2017, 98% of all resident abortions were paid for by public funds in England and Wales. But how much does an abortion really cost? The total payment splits into two parts, a consultation and the actual treatment itself, but altogether roughly sums up at £560. That is a large sum of money when you consider that roughly 206 thousand abortions took place that year. What do you think we could've used that money for? More medical research? Hospitals? Schools?

My thoughts for resolving this economic concern is that while conceiving the child without unfortunate circumstance, the mother or family should have to pay for the procedure. By this, I mean that she became pregnant by making a mistake that is partly her fault, if not all. But this abortion should still happen before the second trimester approaches because they should've had long enough to decide and it's safer too. Whereas, if the woman may have been raped, the money should be paid for by the offender or if completely necessary, from public funds.

One last thought before I end this speech. Netflix and Disney threatened to stop al film production in Georgia because they don't agree with the US state's new abortion law. I a, 100% with their actions on this occasion. This is because the US has completely banned abortion altogether. All I can ask is: why?

Is that something you would do? Do you really think abortion is bad to the stent of presenting it as illegal?

Thank you.
