"My name is none of your business." The man replied.
"Fine, why are you against this wedding?" The pastor asked.
Daisy and Austin were looking at the man both of them shocked. One could not tell if either of them knew the man but could easily tell that the couple was tensed.
"This man slept with my wife while I was away for six months." The guy then said pointing at Austin.
Everyone was shocked to hear what the man had just said, and Daisy slowly turned towards Austin and asked;
"Is it true?"
"I don't even know this man! I have never seen him before in my life." Austin replied trembling.
The pastor took the mic and was about to denounce the wedding when the man just erupted into a huge laughter and began running around the church laughing.
He got to a point and began rolling on the ground and that was when people realized that he was mentally ill. Austin felt relieved, but I could see guilt in his eyes. Just like Daisy was hiding her secrets from him, he too was hiding his from her.
"Birds of the same feather, flock together." I whispered to myself smiling but I just wished the two of them luck together.
After the mentally ill man was taken care of, the ceremony went on and the couple was united. Daisy later on told me that she had confessed all her sins before the wedding and she believed that somehow, that was why the wedding was not ruined again. Everything else went on fine and the event was a success.
About seven months later, the couple moved in next to where I was living and we became neighbors. By now our law firm was in the final touches but Carol did not seem to be excited about it like she was before.
On the launching day of the firm, I noted that Carol had a scratch on her neck and she looked stressed up. I foresaw the whole event then in the evening during the party, I called her aside and asked her what was going on.
"It's Eric, he has changed and to make matters worse, he forced me to sign off some of my businesses to him." She replied sobbing.
"He did this to you?" I asked pointing at her neck.
"He wanted to hurt my daughter when I confronted him and he scratched me with a knife. I reported the issue to the police but he got arrested and was released on the following day. Now I am fearing for our lives together with my little girl?" She replied.
"Calm down dear, your case will be the first one our law firm will handle. I will talk to our team of attorneys and they will file a case against him." I said.
Because she could not go back home for fear of being hurt by Eric, I gave her accommodation at my place while we worked on her case.
The firm gathered enough evidence and presented the case to court. Eric was arraigned in court and we all expected justice, but the guy had gathered too much wealth from Carol's business; he bought off the judges even after we appealed the case.
That very day we lost the case in the court of appeal, I went home and told Carol about it. I then got curious to know why Eric had changed, and that was when Carol told me the truth.
"Ham, there is something I never told you. The last night I was with you, I was not safe." She said facing down.
"What do you mean? You told me that you were on a FP Coil!" I replied sounding shocked.
"I lied. I knew if I told you that I wanted your child, you would not agree, so I had to lie to you. I am so sorry Ham but Lisa Trisha is your daughter. Eric got suspicious when his friends began telling him that the girl doesn't look like him and he secretly took her DNA." She said timidly.
"So now he wants to hurt her because she is not his?" I asked angrily.
"Yeah, that was the root course of everything." She replied.
"Carol, I wrote your name in Mekhi's birth certificate hoping that one day you would become his mother; if I fought for a boy who doesn't carry my blood, you don't wanna know what I am willing to do for a girl who has my own blood." I said trying to be calm but burning with anger.
"Stay here with the kids. The court failed to get us justice; I will get us the justice." I then added and grabbed my car keys and my phone.
Before carol could think of stopping me, I was already gone. I went and told Ronny everything and he offered to help me for yet being there for Kate once again.
Ronny got me a gun and we paid Eric a surprise visit together with Edwin (Ronny's Security guy; an old friend of Ham back when he was Ronny's Chauffeur).
As usual Eric had a small gang protecting him, but we ambushed him by surprise and got them off guard. We asked him to return all the legal documents he had taken from Carol showing the ownership of her property, but he refused.
We had to torture him so that he could produce the documents. Once we had the documents, we decided to leave him poorer than a church mouse, hence we took even what he called his.
On our way out, I heard a gun being corked behind us and I slowly turned to see who was corking the gun. I just remember seeing Eric holding a gun pointing it towards me and pulling the trigger before Edwin speared me to the ground.
Immediately we got to the ground, I then felt some warmth around my left arm and Edwin was lying beside me on the left.
I had landed on my back and I accidentally dislocated my right arm, but I could move. I slowly turned towards my left and I saw my left arm covered in blood.
Just before I could check where the blood was coming from, I heard two continuous gunshots..
