Chapter 4: Invitation

The day before seemed like a dream to Yusei. He not only met the prince, but got carried by and swam with him too. The raven woke up with a positive feeling in his body. Blister was quick to take notice of this.

"Somebody woke up on the right side of the bed this morning." he teased, getting the kinks out his body.

Yusei nodded and did the same. The two put on their clothes and prepared to head downstairs.

"Yusei." called a voice.

Both the raven and brunette turned to the direction of Godwin's room. The atmosphere was eerie and somewhat hostile. Yusei took a step towards his stepfather's room. With a gentle push, the door opened to reveal Godwin sitting up in his bed, his pet cat Rasca at his side. Yusei stood not too far from the bed and listened.

"I want my breakfast immediately. There is a lot of work to be done today." said Godwin.

Yusei nodded.

"Would you like some tea with extra sugar cubes?" he asked.

Godwin looked at him with harsh eyes. "Tea is Saiga's job. You are left with the harder work." he scolded.

Yusei tried not to want to rip out the older man's hair and use it for whatever purposes. The raven calmly nodded and headed to the kitchen, Blister quietly following behind him. The door was pushed open to reveal two wolves sitting in the doorway.

"What are you guys doing here?" asked Yusei.

The wolves walked over to the raven and sat in front of him. Blister was shocked that his step brother could talk to animals. And they weren't cute animals either.

"I guess they want some leftovers." he said. Yusei nodded and began making breakfast. The wolves hid near the table when they heard footsteps. Edo and Sayer came down the stairs in their tailored shirts and neat slacks.

"Yusei!" called Sayer. "I want my breakfast!"

Blister fake gagged at Sayer's voice, causing Yusei to let out a small laugh. As Sayer made more demands, Blister continued to humorously mock him behind his back. The acts gave Yusei laughs. Once they were alone and done with breakfast, the wolves came back out.

"We got leftovers." said Yusei, feeding it to his animal friends.

"First hawks, now wolves. You are not the storybook prince who can talk to animals." commented Blister.

Yusei chuckled and opened the door so the wolves could leave. The raven began to do laundry so he didn't have to hear Godwin's mouth later. Blister decided to go check the mail. As he opened the front door, he saw Hecate standing there with the mail.

"Someone tried to steal it, but I stopped them." she informed.

Blister smiled and kissed her. A blush painted Hecate's face as he held her chin. Blister couldn't help but kiss her again.

"I want us to have a future together." said Blister.

"We will." said Hecate, a beautiful smile painting her face. "And when we do, we won't have to worry about Godwin."

Blister smiled. Hecate handed him the envelope and left. "Oh day..." he said.

Yusei came back inside with the basket and looked at himself. He had a bit of hair making it longer, his body began to look feminine from God knows how long he's been starved, and his skin was beginning to look pale. "Damn," he muttered. "I'm looking the worst."

Yusei went up to the bathroom and grabbed a pair of scissors. He began to snip at the long parts of his hair. As he did, memories of his old life came to mind. He remembered when his father, Hakaze, would cut his hair. He was always gentle and always careful with his cuts. A tear was brought to Yusei's eye. He missed his father and mother. When he finished, Yusei swept up his mess and threw it away.

Not in the mood to hear Godwin, Sayer, or Edo's voices, Yusei went to his room and slumped on his bed. Out of the corner of his eye, Yusei saw an envelope. It was a soft red and it had the Atlas family crest on it.

I could open the envelope, Yusei told himself, or I could live in blissful ignorance.

Yusei reached out for the envelope and carefully ran his hand on it. The paper was soft to the touch and it had gold embroidery. Yusei took the crest off and opened it. Inside was an invitation that caught more of Yusei's attention. The raven took it out and read it.

You are invited to a night of wonder

By order of Prince Jack Atlas, all peoples of noble blood are to attend the royal ball.

The corners of Yusei's mouth went upwards at the invitation.

Finally, he said to himself, the key to freedom.
