In the middle of a night, above the clouds, two horses of the past watch over Jest. a silver stallion and golden mare rest in peace. hidden in the stars they observe the speckled horse with a healing heart sleep restlessly & watch the girl that loves him & has cared for him. they watch their struggle through the tough times. they keep watching, watching, waiting for something to happen.

Nadia let out a heavy sigh, plonking herself onto the couch next to her best friend, Blair.

"What's wrong?" Blair asked, noticing the worried look on Nadia's face.

"Oh nothing," Nadia said stressfully. "Except for the fact that I have almost no water in my water tank, we are running out of money quickly and the landlord wants to sell the farm. If I don't get $15,000 in the next 3 weeks I'll have to sell Jest in order to buy a new house after I get kicked out." Nadia burst into tears. "Jest is all I have and is my whole world, but I don't know what to do."

Blair comfortingly put her arm around Nadia. "You could enter the three-day event?" she suggested.

Nadia smiled sadly at her friend. "You know as well as I do Jest and I can't do dressage, we've barely ever jumped over a pole & don't even get me started on the water jump. I can't put Jest through that." She said solemnly.

"It's worth a try." replied Blair.

A ray of sun shone through the dirty windows of the tack room, bringing warmth and light with it as it fell onto Nadia's chestnut hair. A soft wind blowed through the open door & the sweet smell of hay wafted in. A twinkle entered Nadia's green eyes.

"You know what," she said. "I always hoped something special would happen and I think now is my chance to see if it will. I'm in."

Blair jumped with joy and the sound of laughter filled the room.

A silver stallion watched from a nearby cloud & nickered softly. He tossed his head & with joy jumped off his cloud and galloped off across the wide, open fields of the sky.
