Kevin watched as the world slowly collapsed around him - children all around him shrieked and ran, and he thought it wise to follow them. Only a half hour ago had the news been announced by a panicked reporter that, 'the dead were waking up,' and to, 'lock all doors tightly and wait for the military to arrive.' He watched helplessly as the horrible-smelling, groaning and drooling zombies picked off multiple children. The smiling faces he'd looked forward to seeing every day were now either bloody, mouths opened wide in a scream, or already drooling, growling zombies.

"Mr. Thatcher!" Cried a voice, and all of a sudden, 12 year old Marley Curtis had flung himself towards Kevin. Kevin Thatcher's arms instantly flew around Marley, intending to protect his student.

"C'mon, we need to go!" Kevin cried, taking Marley's hand.

"NO! ELIJAH!" Marley suddenly screamed, and he tried to tug his hand away from Kevin's. With a quick side glance, he saw a poor boy getting attacked by a zombie - Marley's best friend, Elijah. Kevin knew it was too late.

"I-I'm sorry, we have to go!" Kevin shouted over the noise of others screaming and zombies groaning. With an upset cry of,

"Elijah, no.." Marley followed his teacher. Kevin made sure he was safely out of the building, dodging and ducking and diving past zombies and people and rubble.

"Are you okay?" Kevin blurted out when they got out.

"Yes..yes, I'm okay.." Marley whispered, brushing a hand through his long blonde hair.

"Good. We need, uh..we, uh, need to keep moving." The teacher replied, and they began running, hand in hand.

From a bit of running, they managed to get to a quiet road, and the two gasped for air, hands on their knees. Then, all of a sudden, they heard a car engine. Kevin paused, looked up and pulled Marley out of the way of the car, but it parked beside them.

"Hey, guys. You want a ride?"
