Once they'd all eaten dinner (it was almost nightfall by then) they decided they were to keeping moving, and fast, if they wanted to find some place to sleep that night. Leo's house was falling apart. Adam had stayed at the door for hours, waiting, with Dawes' gun, because a hoard of zombies had managed to make their way into the house before, and they didn't want to take a risk.
"My dad kept guns in the attic." Leo said calmly, as if this was normal. Dawes just looked concerned and confused. "There should be enough for all of the adults. If we want a fighting chance, we oughta take them."
"What about me?" Marley pitched in for the first time.
"You?" Snorted Emily. "You're like, 7. You're not getting a gun."
"I'm 12." Marley growled back.
"No, he's right. He can have one too." Leo replied. Emily sighed.
"Dumbasses." She mumbled, folding her arms across her chest. And so off they went, up to the attic. Leo had told the truth too, as on the wall of the attic, there were rifles and pistols, and just enough ammo to last them..for maybe three days.
"This'll do." Dawes said with a grunt as he picked up a few guns, clutching them close to his chest. He handed one out to everyone (except himself, of course, as he already had one,) and walked to Marley. ' 'Kay, kid. This is a pistol. You shoot stuff with it." He joked.
Marley laughed. "Yeah, I know." He took the gun cautiously and pointed it at a wall.
"Careful there. Steady." Dawes said quickly.
Within the hour, they were out in the fresh air. Marley was up front with Adam, and Leo was in the middle with Emily, leaving Kevin alone, so he decided to talk to Dawes.
"Hey." Kevin greeted, smiling at the other man.
"Hi." Dawes groaned. Being the, 'strongest in the group,' (he wasn't, Adam clearly was) he had been tasked with carrying all the heavy supplies. Leo was holding a bag of food, complaining every two minutes, though his bag wasn't nearly as heavy as Dawes' bag.
Because of the bag, full of spare pistols, spare ammo, 2 knives and 1 axe, medicine, spare clothes, a torch, two radios and a few packs of cigars, Dawes was obviously walking slower than everyone else. All of a sudden, Agent Dawes fell to the floor, dropping the bag in the process.
"Fuck!" Dawes cursed, gripping his leg
"Shit, Dawes!" Kevin stammered, rushing to his side. Kevin placed an arm behind the man on the floor's back and gently lifted him to a sitting position.
"I'm okay, I'm okay-MARS, BEHIND YOU!" Yelled Dawes, and he pulled out his pistol, pointing it, at what looked liked Marley, but was actually behind him. Marley panicked and leapt out of the way, just to make 100% sure he'd be okay, and Dawes shot at a zombie.
"Thanks." Marley gasped, and Adam walked over quickly.
"You okay, pal?" Adam asked, placing a hand on the injured man's leg, which made Dawes wince.
"Yeah..yeah. I'm fine..the bag was just a bit heavy.." He reassured him. Leo unzipped the bag and began handing out supplies for other people to hold, so that one guy wasn't doing all the work.
"Think you can walk?" Adam asked.
"Yup, I'll be fine." With a soft groan, he stood up, and Kevin wrapped an arm around Dawes, because he was limping.
Despite the chit-chat and slow walking, they got on pretty fast, but soon, they were stopped.
Kevin felt the barrel of a shotgun go up to his head.
"Freeze!"
