I was escorted inside by Nikai. Then Victoria, who looked as regal as ever with her long hair and beautiful figure, gave me some herbal tea, and that's all I was conscious to remember.
I woke up groggy and disoriented with Victoria by my side giving me more tea.
"This won't make me sleep again right? How long was I out?"
"No, Nike. This will help with the grogginess."
"Thank you." I respond and take a sip.
"Aghh" it burnt my tongue. "I'm getting tired of this whole pain thing."
Victoria laughs. " You slept for nearly three days. It's morning now. And the tea I gave you earlier didn't make you sleep, you simply weren't used to the pain. But the tea will help. Can you sit up?"
"Yes," I reply as I struggle to sit up.
"Then let's get you dressed. Nikai is waiting downstairs to talk. He has made you food as well."
Any food sounded as good as ambrosia right about now. So I got moving as quick as my sore muscles would allow. Victoria helped me into some sort of flowy sundress, very different than my usual toga, but loose enough to be comfortable.
Being awake for the first time, I was beginning to notice my surroundings. I was in a modern-looking bedroom with a balcony window overlooking a beautiful beach.
As Victoria led me out of the room and down the hall towards the stairs, I noticed two more rooms. These were for Victoria and Nikai, I guessed.
At the bottom of the stairs was a dining room, with Nakai waiting impatiently at the table.
"Good, you're up." Nakai proclaimed. "Now for the hard part..."
I cut him off, "How are you here. And where am I."
"You must remember Nike, Victoria and I were mortals before we ever served you. We figured you would need the help to get acquainted with life easier with companions. However, we are no longer you servants here. Now we are equals. And you are in a small beach town called Fairhope. In America. Though, you wouldn't know where that is. It's one of the new lands."
"I'm not that naive. I know what America is. Even though I'm a goddess."
"Well that's a good start," Victoria piped in.
"We need to come up with some sort of cover story. People are going to ask questions whether you want to answer them or not. The neighbor lady has come over for the last three days trying to meet the 'new neighbors.' So we need to discuss this quickly."
"Can I eat my food?"
Nikai slid the eggs and more tea in my direction. As I ravishingly polish them off, Victoria proposes an idea.
"We act as siblings. And you, Nike, obviously have to enroll in school. And human you looks about 17 years old, so that is perfect. I'm not sure why Deimos believes this to be a hard challenge. As for our parental guardians and where we came from, we've been living overseas and our parents sent us here for you to finish school. Nikai and I will do our best to contribute to society however we can without causing disruptions. And I know you will not enjoy this, Nikai, but one of us needs to make sure everything is okay at the school with Nike. I propose you become a teacher. For music maybe. As I recall you rather enjoyed playing music during your mortal life."
"Umm, wow. That's a solid plan." I state.
"I've had three days to think."
"Absolutely not!" shouts Nikai. "I can't go to that blasted school just to keep an eye on Nike!"
Victoria responds calmly, "Remember why we are here Nikai. We are technically still here to serve."
Nikai grunts. "Fineee."
"Then it's settled then," I state.
The doorbell rings in the background.
