The first thing I felt, was the cold, but soft, grass underneath me. The first thing I heard, was whistling. It was a somber tune. It didn't sound like it had any happiness in it at all. I tried to open my eyes, and at first I couldn't. They felt too heavy. You know...that feeling you get when you've slept too long, so you're still tired.

As soon as I finally found the strengh to open my eyes, the whistling stopped.

"Hey. Glad to see you in the world of the living. You've been asleep for a long time. Not safe in these parts. Not with the Olc everywhere. Too dangerous. You should be glad I found you."

I looked to where the voice came from. There was a boy sitting next to my previously unconscious body. He looked to be around my age. 17, maybe a little older. He must have been the one whistling. He had short-ish dark brown hair that looked naturally mussed, and hazel eyes that were blocked off. No emotions were showing through his eyes at all. His clothes were strange. Something you would see in a fantasy movie. A white butten down long sleeve shirt with a worn brown vest over it and matching leather pants, not the tight kind, but the kind that looked like they would help protect you if you were fighting. I looked away from him and at my surroundings. We were in what looked like a field. There were mountains and rolling hills covered in big evergreens far off in the distance. I looked over at Mr. Fantasy.

"Where are we, and what's an Olc?"

The look he gave me when I asked insinuated that I was mental.

"We're in the The Skadelig Valley." The way he said that was as if everyone should know what and where the scad-whatever valley was. "And an Olc is a creature that is created from hatred. They're everywhere around these parts unfortunately. I figured that they were the reason I found you unconscious, but then again, if they got to you, there probably wouldn't have been a body for me to find."

My eyes got wide at that.

"But anyway" he said with a smirk on his lips, "Where are your manners? You haven't introduced yourself."

I sat there dumbfounded by his words. Not only by his rude manners comment, but also by the fact that at any moment one of those Olc things could burst through the trees and eat us...or whatever they did to make there be no body afterward... I looked at the boy and he raised an eyebrow and motioned with one of his hands for me to say something. What was I supposed to say? Wait, he asked my name...kind of.

'What is my name" I thought to myself, 'now that I think about, I can't remember anything previous to waking a few minutes ago. Name, name, name...um...E. It starts with an E. Ev...Eve...'

I heard the clearing of a throat and I looked back up at the boy. He raised both eyebrows this time.

"What?" he asked, "Forgot your name?"

"Oh. Um...no. My name's...Eevee."

'Eevee? Yeah, that sounds right.' I thought slightly nodding myself.

"My names Kaiden...what kind of name is Eevee?"

I looked at him offended.

"It's short for Evelyn. What kind of name is Kaiden?"

Was it short for Evelyn? I didn't really know, but I just wanted the boy, Kaiden or whatever, to just be quiet. His attitude was frustrating.

"I'll have you know, that Kaiden is a very popular name!" he yelled looking slightly offended.

"Oh yeah? In what Country?" I
scoffed.

"This one!" he yelled back. He looked at me with a slight glare in his eyes, then sighed an looked down at the ground. "If you're done insulting my name-"

"You started it!" I yelled, interrupting him.

"If you're done," he continued, almost like I hadn't even said anything, "then I think it's time I take my leave." Kaiden gathered his stuff, put it in a bag and slung it around his left shoulder. He then picked up a sword that I just realized he had. The sheath it was in was a dark blue color with symbols that I didn't understand. Another language perhaps? The symbols looked as if they were painted with gold paint. I was going to ask about, but he started to walk away.

"Hey! What about me? You can't just leave me here! I'll die!" I yelled. He must have heard me yell, because he stopped walking and just stood still. He didn't even turn around for at least two minutes while I just stood there staring at his back, awkwardly awaiting my fate.

"Fine."

I smiled and ran up to where Kaiden was standing and when I was right behind him he immediately started walking straight without even turning around to acknowledge me.

"So...where are we going?" I asked slowly to the back of Kaiden's head as we walked. The only response I got was his head barely turning in my direction.

"Hey! I'm talking to you! Where are we going? Are you ignoring me!?"

He sighed, "I'll take you as far as I can and then you're on your own. And then well never see each other again, so don't try and get friendly."

"But-"

"That means" he interrupted," no conversations. Don't try to talk to me. Better yet, don't even look at me. Just...focus on the surroundings. If you'd done that more often, then you probably wouldn't have gotten lost in the first place, and we wouldn't be in this mess."

"But I didn't get lost! I-"

"I don't care." He interrupted again,"No talking."

"....Okay fine. I won't talk to you."

"Good."

"I'll just admire the scenery." I looked at the back of Kaiden's head to see if me saying that sentence got any kind of rise out of him, but he seemed to be ignoring me. I'm not quite sure why, but I really wanted to annoy this boy. I turned my head away from him as we continued to walk further in to the valley, getting closer and closer to the approaching forest, and began to comment on everything I possibly could. I was saying a whole lot of things like,"Oh wow! That flower is such a beautiful shade of purple!" and," There goes a butterfly! So pretty!".

Finally a few hours later when we finally reached the edge of the trees he seemed to get fed up with me.
