Chapter Fourteen

There were tons of people crowding the spacious room.Harry's arm was looped around mine and his eyes held comforting glow.Adrianne stood beside him,looking as confident as ever.I'm guessing she does this all the time,she must be used to this.

"There's a lot of people here."she whispered into Harry's ear,loud enough for me to hear.He nodded.

"Indeed."he murmured,"And a lot of cops."

"You can say that again."

"Let's just hope Bruce doesn't show up."he muttered under his breath.He led us around the room,greeting some people as he walked past them.At the moment I thought I was at the party to have fun and meet people,not to steal a billion dollar diamond.

"Have a drink Elena,you're too stiff."Harry said as he handed me a glass of champagne.I took it and drank it swiftly.It was too sour,but I drank it anyways.As much as I drank,I couldn't help but notice how unusually dry my throat is.Is it anxiety or fear?

"Relax.Everything is going to be okay."Harry said into my ear.I wanted to move my head away when his lips brushed my ear lobe,but o figured it would be rude so I shrugged it off.

"I wonder where they are now."Adrianne wondered aloud.

"Somewhere on the roof,waiting for a good opportunity."Harry said.I looked around to soothe my nerves and I spotted him.

Bruce.

"Harry."I tugged at his blazer.

"What?"

"Bruce is here."I whispered.

"Oh no.I have to hide.Adrianne take care of her."

With that he disappeared as he walked through people.His mop of curls was nowhere to be seen,which I was thankful for.Adrianne looped her arm around mine."Stay calm,or he'll find out about our secret."

I took a piece of sushi and stuffed it into my mouth.The explosion of flavor in my mouth made my mind go to a happy place.A place where mom and I were sitting on the grass,children around us playing and us enjoying some nice sushi with wasabi to spice it all up.

My vision was quickly interrupted by a man clearing his throat.It quickly snapped me into reality.Bruce was standing in front of me,scowling.Adrianne's arm was still looped around mine.

"Hello Elena."

"Hello Bruce."

"Beautiful night isn't it?"

"I guess so."I smiled.He was studying me as if I was some sort of specimen,which made me uncomfortable.But I didn't acknowledge my fear,for Harry's safety.

"I have a few questions and I hope you may have answers."He said.

"Really?"

"Cut the crap.Where's Harry?"he snapped.

"We haven't seen him in a while now."

"Lies!"

"She's saying the truth.Harry isn't here.We haven't seen him ever since Elena came home.I thought he was still one of your prisoners."

He glared at Adrianne,his nostrils flared."I could kill you right now."he said through his teeth.

"What's stopping you?"Adrianne asked harshly.

Without a word,Bruce backed away.He then turned his back towards us and he walked away,not sparing us a glance.I felt my cheeks flush.

"Are you out of your mind?"I asked Adrianne.
