BLAKE

The last Saturday before winter break ends and I'm spending it partying with people I barely know. Music pumps all around me and bodies sway with the beat. I see people drinking and stumbling, thinking that nobody saw them spill their drink on my floor.

"Hello," I see a hand wave in front of my face, "Earth to Blake."

"Hmm," I look over at Zeke looking at me with an eyebrow raised. I've known Zeke since I was ten and has always gone for that skater boy look, because - and I quote - "The chicks dig it!" His dark brown shaggy is pulled back by a red bandana and matches my tall muscular build.

"I asked if you wanted to play a game of pool," he laughed, "You good, Bro?"

I shake my head and laugh out, "Just tired, man. Let's go play some pool."

I take a swig from my beer and walk away from the kitchen counter we were leaning against. We walk past the living room, which has been turned into the designated dance area, and head up the stairs to the game room. People crown around the couch that points to the new flat screen TV mounted on the wall. The four people that occupy the couch are in the middle of the last lap in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Things look intense as someone tosses a fire ball at the other to get in first place.

Zeke sets up the pool balls and I break first. The 7 ball goes in the left corner pocket. I make two more balls in before I scratch. Zeke shows no mercy as he plays like a pro and makes five striped balls in before the cue ball misses its target and hits one of mine in instead.

As I lean in and try for the five ball, a scream erupts from the couch as a girl with a brown pixie cut hair jumps up and down yelling, "In your face, Tony!" Laughter rumbles through the crowd as a guy with black hair stands up and bows towards her. Soon after, players replace the old ones and a new game begins.

I turn my attention back to the task at hand and hit the cue ball. I watch as it misses every ball on the table and just slowly stops in the perfect position for Zeke to win. Zeke laughs as he makes the rest of his striped balls in and circles the table to see which pocket to hit the eight ball in, "Right corner pocket," he mutters before making the final shot effortlessly.

"I'm getting a refill," I say heading towards the stairs and then offer over my shoulder, "You want anything?"

"Nah," he calls out, "I'm good."

I walk downstairs and head towards the kitchen. I open the fridge and grab a beer. I pop the cap off and take a big gulp. I turn around and watch the kids from my school dancing and see Melody Rogers. Her long strawberry blonde hairs pulled back in a braid, her skinny jeans compliment her thin legs and her crop top is showing off her belly button ring.

Mel's the head cheerleader and my girlfriend - well sometimes; it's hard to tell most of the time. One second she's sweet as sugar and the next she's a she demon screaming at me for something I did - or rather for something I didn't do.

I guess we're back together because when she sees me, she prances over with a flirtatious smile, "What are you doing over here all by your lonesome?"

"Just admiring the view," I smile down at her.

"I bet you say that to all the girls," she giggles and bats her fake eye lashes up at me.

"Just the ones I like," I say with a wink.

She takes my hand and interlocks our fingers, "You wanna dance," she asks already leading me to the dance floor with the others. She pushes her way in to the middle of the crowd and moves her hips to the beat making sure her body never leaves mine.
