Chapter 2 - New Kid

Aria’s POV:

Shimmering rays of Sunshine peered through my window and crept towards me until perched right on top of face. My eyes began to twitch as they slowly opened. I sat up in shock, for this wasn’t my room, my room didn’t have a wall full of posters or a window seat. It took me a few seconds to piece everything together, the fact that I wasn’t in Australia anymore, that I didn’t sleep in my old room either and that I now lived in London and had a completely different room altogether. I glanced at my rectangular cotton candy pink alarm clock, it read 7:45 a.m.

“You’ve got to be kidding me right…..Urgh!” I moaned as I plopped back down onto my pillow, the sun was already awake and slowly positioning itself so that it could bring as much sunlight as it possibly could to London and I was lying there wishing it would be night again. Every morning I would wake up and not have the slightest recollection of where I was, it was really weird, I had never done this kind of thing before. What was wrong? 

My thoughts were interrupted by a knock at my door. It slowly began to open making that annoying creaking sound, the kind of sound that reminded you of fingernails clawing their way down a black chalkboard. I soon saw a familiar face peeping through the door as they leaned on the panel of the door way, Lauren.

“Oh, you’re already awake. I was just coming to wake you up so you could get ready for school”.

“School? I totally forgot that I start today”.

“Well I know your friends are going to be thrilled to see you’re back, so start getting ready love…. Oh and I made pancakes, just as a special going back to school breakfast”.

“Yum, I’ll start getting ready then”. I said half giggling.

Lauren smiled as she closed the door behind her. I got up from under the covers and stared at my phone, the last time I had spoken to any of my friends from London was right before I left Australia, I hadn’t even told them I was coming back. I just hoped that they would be glad to see me. I made my way down the hall to the bathroom so I could go for a shower and brush my teeth.

*20 minutes later*.

I walked into my room, towel draped around me, to find that Lauren had already ironed my uniform and laid it on my bed for me. I quickly got dressed pulling on some black stockings and a singlet, followed by my white blouse with the school logo on it ‘Woodside High School, Allowing You To Be Your Best’ which I then tucked into my navy blue skirt that came half way down my thighs. I placed on a knitted navy blue sweater and made my way towards the mirror. My straightener was heated up and ready to use.

I finished in 15 minutes, a new record! I took a minute to look at myself in the mirror, making sure I looked okay before going downstairs. My hair now straight with a pretty black floral print bow , rather than its usual waviness, outlined my face , my eyes a deep shade of brown and my lips soft and a pale pink. I then moved my eyes downwards, skimming my body, I didn’t have that idealistic body; a skinny with amazing legs and a nice bum but I was happy with the way I was. I was an average looking 17 year old girl.

“Good Morning!” I chirped as I walked into the kitchen, Ben was sitting at the bench digging into his pancakes while Lauren was cooking some more. I sat down next to Ben giving him a kiss on the cheek. “Morning Aria” he said with a smile, my pancakes were already on a plate sitting in front of me covered in maple syrup. It looked so good but it tasted even better. After we had all finished we got our bags and walked out the door and into the car.

As I made my way through the school gate I saw them, three of the most amazing girls ever; Maci with her medium length chestnut hair, hazel eyes and fare skin sitting there talking away to Emily, who was too busy reading a book. You could barely see her face the way her chocolate brown hair was dwindling down covering her light brown eyes. I laughed it was just like them, for Maci to be yapping away and Em pretending to listen as she got lost in the storyline of the whatever book she was reading at the time. My eyes then motioned to the figure sitting behind Emily. Ally. Her natural golden blonde hair had been curled with a white and purple bow I had given her pinning back a part of her fringe so that it was out of her face. She had her earphones in and was going through her IPod. She glanced up and saw me, you could see the excitement fill her large green eyes that hid the slightest tint of blue. An enormous grin began to emerge on her face as she got up and bolted in my direction.

“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!” she screamed as she reached me, greeting me with a colossal hug that almost tipped me right over.  After one of the longest hugs ever experienced by human, we pulled away.

“ARIA! OMG ARE YOU REALLY HERE? I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU’RE ACTUALLY HERE, WAIT WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE? AAAAHHHHHHHH I MISSED YOU HEAPS!”

I laughed, “Yes I am really here, I’ll explain everything later it’s a really long story and OMG! I missed you heaps too”.

“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH” we both yelped this time in unison, while Maci and Em came running over to us. We all embraced and confessed about how much they missed me and how much I missed them. We even started to get to the latest gossip even though the new term had only just begun. Next thing we knew the bell had rung and we had to make our way to classes. We hugged goodbye as they jetted off to class and I walked to the front office to get my timetable.

As I waited in the office while the lady printed out my timetable, a girl from a younger grade tore past me and knocked my floral hardcover notebook to the ground. All of my notes and sheets from last term came flying out and spread themselves across the cleanly waxed floorboards. I quickly kneeled to the floor so that I could start gathering them when tall figure casted a shadow over me. They then knelt down as well and started to help. Once we had both gotten all the astray papers I looked up to see this dark and totally HOT! chap whose dark brown eyes met mine.

“Here….. don’t you just hate it when things like this happen?”

“Yeah, but what are you going to do?” We both began to stand our eyes still glued to one another.

“Thanks by the way, you really didn’t have to help.” I let him know as I took the papers from his hand.

“It’s cool, it was what any decent person would have done”.  We both laughed as the lady came back to the desk.

“Here you go love, I hope you enjoy it here”.

“Thank you”.

I turned back to the mysterious, yet gorgeous lad only to find that he had disappeared. I looked around the room but there was no sign of him, I decided to forget it, I shouldn’t be thinking of guys at the moment anyway I thought as I started walking to my first class.

As I got to the room I took a deep breath and knocked on the door, the teacher Mr Daniels eyeballed me standing in doorway and gestured me in,

“You must my new student, Aria Stone. Correct?”

“Um…. yeah that’s me” I answered politely feeling the gaze of everyone in the classroom on me.

“OMG ARIA YOU’RE IN OUR CLASS!” Ally shouted excitedly as she motioned for me to sit next to her.

“So I see you have already made friends then Aria”

“Yeah a few actually” I said nodding at sir.

“Great, take a seat then and we can begin”.

I took a seat next to Ally and smiled, Emily and Maci sat one row in front so it made things a lot easier for us to talk to each other. While Mr Daniels started the lesson I looked around the room to see if I recognised anyone else and then I saw him, the guy from the office. He looked at me and smiled before turning back to the board. I couldn’t believe it, I was actually in the same class as him. My sudden moment of joy however was intruded as I felt Ally tap me, I turned to her.

“Sleepover at my house tonight, kind of like a welcome back we missed you party. This way you can actually explain what you’re doing here”.

“Alright, tonight though, kay?”

“Yep. Its gunna be just like old times”.
