Elizabeth Falkov

I drew a portrait of Damien. His black hair was tousled to the side. I took to detail his plump lips that was traced to a playful smirk.

I hummed as I remembered what those lips has done to my body and my mind.

Damien was my almost fiancé.

But one thing's for sure, he wanted me to be his again.

I dragged the pencil to draw his eyes. Those sharp green eyes, so familiar and captivating. Then, pain burst into my head as I closed my eyes.

I could see a smile. It was blurry but I knew who it was. My Damien. The fogginess was cleared as I gazed at his glorious figure.

I laughed at him and splashed water on his face. He squinted his eyes and a mischievous smile formed on his face. I swam away from him, knowing he was up to no good. But it was futile, he was faster than I.

"Got you, Eliza." I squirmed on his arms as desire pooled in my belly. I could feel something poking against my thigh.

"Stop,"his deep voice whispered against my ear as I stilled. His hands were roaming all over my skin as I let out a breathy gasp. My body felt hot everywhere. I clasped my hands on his shoulders and pulled away. He looked at me, hurt.

"Eliza?"

"I'm sorry. This moment is for my husband." I cupped his face as he leaned towards it. He gave me a wicked smile, "Good thing I'll be marrying you, huh." His lips captured mine as we kissed under the moonlight. My heart felt happy.

The migraine stopped as I shook myself out of that trance. No one had noticed that I spaced out. A good thing too.

I have never had a glimpse of the past, this wasn't supposed to happen to any of us. We aren't allowed to remember.

I must find Will.

I realized that I have stopped drawing. The portrait of Damien was outlined and shaded to what I saw fit. This was a good drawing. Sadly, I have to give to the teacher once the month ends.

"Didn't know you could draw," I heard a voice from behind say.

"I had decades to practice." I turned to face the human. His emerald eyes were warm and inviting.

"Who's he? A boyfriend?" The wolf beside him glowered at me. If looks could kill, I'd be six feet under.

I decided to humor her..

and myself of course.

"A friend," I gave him my best practiced smile. I faced him and put my elbow on his desk. With my cheek resting on my palm, I peered at his blank paper.

"Who will you draw?"

"Not sure," he answered, genuinely having a difficult time. Cute. "Someone intriguing perhaps."

"How about me?" I winked and then glanced at the seething female beside him. She looked ready to cut my head off with her teeth. The human laughed at that.

"We'll see," he joked.

The girl growled at me then grabbed his arm. He seemed startled as if he forgot she was there.

And my work here is done.

This is what I'll be looking forward to then, until I find Will. Looking at her raging is definitely an entertainment.

*•*•*•*

I walked with Eleanor to the cafeteria. It was crowded and buzzing with people talking. Not my kind of environment.

"I'll be by the tree," I said and left her to see her mate. Finding Will should be my first concern and what easier way than to his mate's brother.

With my back leaned against the tree, I closed my eyes and listened to the wind blowing softly. Damien, my Damien. Can I love you again? I don't think I'm capable of loving someone so dearly, not since after I turned. I am after all destined to be alone.

I looked at the sky, the wind blowing past me in a gentle breeze. Another thought came up to my mind. Why did Will be with his mate? We aren't allowed to have one. It's against the rules of destiny, of nature.

Unfortunately, Will has broken this law and by acting up on the bond, he will be sentenced to death by our siblings. How will I tell him that I need to kill his mate to let him live? They don't know yet. If they knew, they'd come for him.

Killing his mate is the only way.

"Fancy seeing you here," I glanced up to see the human smiling at me. My eyes dart to his neck, where small hickeys lay. "Wolves are very active, aren't they?"

"Hm, very much so."

He sat beside me with a long sigh. I could tell he was stressed and tired. Living with wolves must have taken a toll on him. They're always too enthusiastic.

Chase opened his mouth as if to say something then clamped it shut. "What?"

He jumped a bit and scratched his ear. "I was just thinking about something."

I hummed, signaling him to continue. "Mates." He laughed a bit, a sad one.

"Isn't the bond peculiar?"

The bond? The red line of fate that ties you to your mate. I heard and witnessed how it can both strengthen and destroy you at the same time.

"It's just- I don't feel it." He gripped his hair. " I  can't pretend anymore. I don't love her, not in that way. I can't." The human let out a shaky breath.

That's odd. Humans can't feel it as strong as wolves but the attraction should be there. Has there been a mistake in the pairing? But the Goddess of the Moon is not one for mistakes. This is very unusual. Is this like last time?

"I- I'm sorry. I just- It felt good to say it out loud."

"The wolf- your half, she loves you." He seemed surprised by my reply. Did he think I was going to sit pretty while I listen to him whine?

"But you don't. Tell her that." I shrugged. Wasn't it simple? They would both suffer if they continued this one sided bond. "Hindering the truth would only make it worse."

He breathed out, "You know what? Maybe I will."

This wolf meant a lot to this human, but why didn't the bond kick in? Usually they would have been all over each other by now, it's been too long for the human to not feel anything.

"Thanks for listening, Eli. Take care!" He got up with his backpack and hurriedly jogged away.

Eli?

Strange. Truly strange. No one has called me that before, how daring. This Chase is truly a mystery.

"Elizabeth, I know where they are."

Now the chase begins.
