"Dong Sicheng, please clean up this sticky mess," Park Gonghae, the manager of the convenience store hollered.

"Coming," Sicheng grumbled while he gathered the mop and floor cleaning solution from the back. He raked his delicate fingers through his dark brown hair which framed his beautiful angelic face which was marred with a furrow between his arched brows. His full luscious lips puckered in concentration. Many would say Sicheng was an extremely handsome young man, and the girls from a nearby school often tried to catch his attention. Not that he had ever returned nor reciprocated any. He had too much on his hands.

Sicheng's friend and co-worker Nakamoto Yuta often teased him about the pretty girls. But they both knew Sicheng's interests lay elsewhere.

They were tidying up the store in preparation for closing up. A usual routine. Sicheng's shift should have been easier that night, but because some kids chose to play push and shove with the dripping ice cream on cones in their hands while waiting for their mother at the counter, Sicheng had to clean it up.

Sicheng mopped up the floor diligently as the manager Mr. Park barked his final instructions before he left for the day. Only Yuta and himself usually remained to close up the store at half past midnight.

"Don't forget to stack up those soda cans in the store-room," the manager hollered from over his shoulder as he left the store ahead of the family shuffling behind him. They were the last customers of the day.

Despite the tedious job he had as a store clerk, Sicheng was diligent and industrious. Unlike his friend Yuta, he had no inclination to go gallivanting at malls unless he had a viable reason such as purchasing something he urgently needed. Sicheng had no vices, he hardly went out clubbing and no boyfriend. At least none at the moment. His former boyfriend had dumped him for a girl whom he apparently got pregnant.

Perhaps Yuta was right in telling Sicheng his boyfriend left him because he was as stif as a rod. Sicheng would often try to contradict Yuta, especially about his sex life, but his friend thought otherwise. Basically, he led a boring life. That was Yuta's hypothesis.

Needless to say, Sicheng was all work and no play. He had his reasons though. His family relied upon him to send money whenever he can to assist his younger siblings who were still in primary school. Halfway thru his studies at the university, Sicheng had to sacrifice his own college education to give way to his younger brother and sister. Opportunity led him to seek his fortunes in Korea and thereafter, Sicheng worked hard so he could help support his family back in China. He kept this job and a part-time one during the weekends at a popular advertising agency as an all-around assistant.

Sicheng wiped his brow after mopping up the whole store and stowed the cleaning paraphernalia in the tiny stockroom. It was his turn to take out the trash so he gathered up the enormous black garbage bag and tied it off. He walked out the back door and his teeth chattered as the icy blast of the cool January evening hit him.
