The last thing I remembered was falling asleep with my head resting on his chest, and woke up in that same very position. Harry began to move as the alarm continued to ring, and I quickly turned it off before he was awoken by it.
Untangling myself from him, I got up and walked to the bathroom, beginning to run the water of the shower until it became a reasonable temperature and stepped inside seeming as my clothes had already been taken off of me last night.
The warm water relaxed my muscles as I prepared mentally for my second day at the hospital. Yesterday was an eye opener for me, showing me how innocent lives are being threatened by illnesses which they should be saved from. Becoming a pediatrician will allow me to do that, somewhat giving a purpose to my life which I never thought possible before.
After finishing up I turn off the shower, stepping out and immediately getting goosebumps from the vast temperature difference, quickly getting a towel and wrapping it around my body. Then, I quietly walk back into the bedroom, finding Harry lying flat on his stomach still asleep. Augustus is partially hidden under the covers, laying where I previously was. I smile at the scene before getting fresh blue scrubs from the dresser and putting them on after my undergarments.
I make my way downstairs to the kitchen, turning on the stove to make myself a bowl of oatmeal. As I begin I am reminded of Casey and how every morning before classes she would make me eat this exact meal. I miss her seeming as it's been a few months since we last saw eachother, her too busy taking care of two kids to come and hang out which is more than understandable. I decide that I will call her later to make plans, maybe even allowing Harry and Liam to come along.
As I sit down at the dining room table with my now finished meal, I enjoy the silence that envelops the house, just the sounds of birds outside chirping away being the audio for my morning.
After eating for a few more minutes I put everything in the dishwasher before putting on my black tennis shoes, grabbing my keys, and heading outside to my medium sized car, turning on the ignition and begin making my way to the hospital.
I turn on the radio to find a new song by some band from Australia playing, as the radio host announces their name I can't help but laugh at it. The song is pretty catchy, and by the end of it I can't get the chorus out of my head. When the host begins talking for awhile I tune it out, paying attention to the road in front of me.
There is slightly more traffic on the way to London today, but fortunately I left early enough that none of it will make me late. It's a good thing Elliott told me that the higher ups enjoy people who can get to their jobs on time, because the thought of staying in bed with Harry for a few extra minutes this morning would've been a whole lot more tempting.
Eventually, I pull into a parking spot just outside of the hospital, grabbing my belonging before heading inside the enormous building. One thing that shocked me when I first started researching this hospital was the sheer size of it, over one hundred floors in all.
Just like yesterday I head to the pediatrics ward, swiping my time card to begin my day. I smile when Elliott is waiting behind me to do his, "good morning."
"Good morning Leah, ready for your second day?" He asks, putting his card back in his pocket before brushing a hand through his brown hair.
"Of course, hopefully now that I have one day under my belt I'll be able to start learning things and actually helping out."
"Today you should get to be a bit more hands on, I figured I'd let you write on the paperwork as I treated the patient for starters, sound good?"
"Sounds great," I say as we begin walking the same route as yesterday, mentally preparing myself for the day ahead of me.
-
As I walk in the front door my feet are aching from yet another day of doing nothing but standing. I can't really complain though seeming as I was actually able to help Elliott, doing a good job according to him of keeping track what was going on with each patient as he checked and treated them.
During lunch I was able to figure out that Elliott's father is a leading surgeon at the hospital, something he doesn't like to tell people so they don't think more or less of him. That was just about all the conversation we could make for the day, too busy with patients to talk about much else.
As I begin taking off my shoes the patter of small paws on the hardwood floor causes me to smile, the site of Gus barreling towards me then stopping before he rams into me. I kneel down before petting him, eventually standing back up wondering where Harry is.
The house is silent, and even as I walk into the dining room I can't help but be shocked by what I see.
Sitting at the table is none other than Casey and Liam, Harry standing by the kitchen island with a huge grin on his face, "surprise?"
My heart swells with appreciation as they both stand and I'm able to embrace my long time friends, "what are you two doing here?"
Casey is the first to speak, "Harry called us and we figured we could use a night off from the kids, so we decided to get Liam's sister to babysit and come over here."
Liam high fives Harry, "tonight better be a throwback to our college days." He says, and I wonder how I will stay awake for even another hour.
"I figured since you have tomorrow off the four of us could go out and have a fun night out, are you feeling up for it?" My fiancé asks me, and I have no other option than to accept.
I nod, "of course, let me just go get changed."
As I begin walking out of the dining room and towards the stairwell I hear Casey's well known squeal, perhaps the only thing I haven't missed about my best friend.
Once in my bedroom I find a black dress with somewhat clear lace down the sides, something that will do for a night out. Just as I get out of my hospital clothes and begin putting it on Harry walks into the room, "am I the best 'going to be your husband', or what?"
"That's called fiancé," I say while laughing, "and yes you definitely are."
He walks up to me before leaning down and pressing his lips to mine, placing his hands on my waist before pulling my body against his, "I didn't get a chance to do that when you got home," he says after we both pull away.
"It's a good thing you didn't forget then." I say before turning around, "can you zip up the back for me?"
Harry complies, and once he's done he begins leaving kisses where his hands just trailed, goosebumps forming from his actions.
"Not now, we have guests, remember?" I say while turning to face him, putting a stop to what he's trying to start.
Harry pouts, "fine."
I quickly kiss him, "now let's get downstairs before they actually think we are having sex."
"We could if you'd like," Harry offers, but I'm already walking out of the bedroom door and back down to our friends.
Casey and Liam are still seated at the table, making some sort of conversation as I walk into the room.
"Do we have any idea if where we want to go?" I ask them, and they nod simultaneously.
"There's a club about twenty minutes away from here, it's supposed to be amazing." Casey boasts.
"Let's go then," I say.
