she approaches the bank of the ravine

feeling tranquil

not worrying about grades

     about friends

          about life

she wanders the woods

she wades the ravine

she dunks two rocks underneath the delicate surface of the water

she mixes her warpaint that she wears long after she washes her face

she wears it for the battles she faces every day

      at school

           at home

as soon as she leaves her calm ravine she enters her Battleground that she has to live in

at least until she returns

to the ravine that she loves more than anything

          her phone vibrates

                it's her mom

she says it's time for supper

and that she has to leave her refuge

                                                                 her haven

                                           her sanctuary

but does she care?
