Chapter 1 {Quiet Morning}

Riley blinked her eyes open and yawned. Her elegant purple horns bumped against the nightstand as she tossed herself around to wake up. Humid morning air crept through the window screen and into her bedroom.

"Riley, dear? Could you please come down here for breakfast?" Riley's mother called.

"Yeah, Mom! Hold on!" Riley yelled, aiming her voice down the stairs so her mother could hear.

Carefully unbuttoning her pajamas, she got into the outfit she had picked out the day before. It was a thin white tank-top with cropped jean-shorts.
She looked in the mirror. Her blonde hair flowed like waves down to the center area of her spine, and her small deer-tail popped out of her shorts. Long horns made an elegant wave on her head. She was ready.

Riley's feet thumped down the pale-carpeted stairs, the grey walls made the carpeting pop out in a beautiful style. In a second or two, Riley had reached the bottom. A gorgeous living room stood before her, where her father read the news while eating the eggs Riley's mother had made.
Riley got herself a bowl of the eggs, and a spoon. She sat next to her father, taking a bite of the warm, creamy, liquid egg. Peering over her father's shoulder, she read the news with him.

Riley looked away from the paper. She didn't enjoy reading of death much. Even when she bought books, she made sure they weren't violent, but instead history rich. Her favorite was Skyfield, a story of how two of the five dragons, Field and Sky, fell in love.

Of course, all of the dragons in the world were gone now. Maybe even in the entire Twix galaxy. Riley sighed, and took another bite of her eggs.

"Shouldn't you be doing your chores?" Her father inquired, but not looking away from the news.

Riley nodded. She set her bowl down to finish later, and walked out to the back door. As she exited, the door behind her quietly clicked shut.
