KIM NAMJOON & KIM EUN HYE
Namjoon rarely goes out of his house during his childhood. He is always cooped up with his house reading the comics and novels his mother bought for him. Kim Eun Hye was concerned for her son's mentality and so she grabbed Namjoon by the wrist softly and headed outside to the car.
"Eomma! Where are we going?" Namjoon exclaimed as he sat in the back and playing with his fingers. "Today, we will have a great day. Okay, baby?" Namjoon was confused considering he always had fun at home, why is his mother on insisting on going out when all he wanted was to read?
Kim Eun Hye drove the car in silence while Nmajoon stared as he passed the sea and markets, he traced his tiny fingers to the border of the window and let out a large gust of air and drawing stickmen to the window. Namjoon soon grew bored and fell asleep, snoring quietly on the back seat. Kim Eun Hye looked at the mirror above her to see her son kneeling against the window.
She then continued to look towards the road and felt a pain in her stomach. Was it guilt? Was it pain? Her eyes filled with tears as she reconsidered her thoughts; do I really deserve to be Namjoon's mother? Why do I have to hate him so much even if I don't want to?
~
" Hey, sleepy head. Wake up." Eun Hye said as she rubbed small circles under his eyes. Namjoon grunted in discomfort. Eun Hye tried again but this time slowly tickling his underarms and his stomach. " Wake up, we're here. The loch ness monster will be sad if you don't get to see him." Eun Hye gently whispered in his ear. Eun Hye then started to tickle his stomach and Namjoon softly squirmed and giggled under her touch which made him fully awake.
" Eomma! Stop, t-that's ticklish!" He giggled and pulled his mother's hands. All Eun Hye did was laugh softly, wrinkles around her mouth and eyes filled with despair and regret. " Fine, I'll stop. But you have to see this before the loch ness monster goes back home."
Namjoon's eyes dilated and were in awe, was he really going to see the loch ness monster? He wasn't sure but he took his mother's hands and she leads him to the tip of the mountain and told him to look out at the sea. Namjoon's hand squeezed hers as he saw the horizon, layered with the color orange and pink, the sun hovering down to rest, the dark silhouettes of birds flying in flocks and the breeze of the air rotating the two and the smell of salt hovering under their noses.
Kim Eun Hye breathed the air, savoring the last moments of her lif-
" Eomma, he isn't here." Namjoon frowned.
" Who is?"
" The loch ness monster."
" He's probably asleep," Eun Hye said while still closing her eyes.
" Yeah. Probably. But I will wait for how many years until I get to see him again. Just like how you waited for me when you gave birth." Namjoon said expressionlessly and releasing his mother's hands.
At that moment, Eun Hye realizes that Namjoon is too small for her to take her life so soon; to her, this very moment is precious to her and she can't just ruin it by grabbing Namjoon's hands and jumping off the cliff. He is still too young, too energetic, too enthusiastic to be forced to end his life on the spot.
So the rest of their night, Namjoon and Eun Hye laid next to each other and stared at the stars.
Namjoon wishing upon the shooting stars.
Eun Hye wishing for the stars to rewrite her fate.
