Chapter 2: Bakugou's high horse
~Your P.O.V.~
I stepped out of my house, waving mom goodbye, and headed towards U.A. 'Today is the day we test our quirks. I'm guessing it's just to see where we are currently. Although... I haven't had to use my quirk for a while since...' I suddenly felt an arm slide around my waist and a low chuckle. "Good Morning (Y/N)," someone whispered and I felt a warm breath on the back of my neck. I yelped, fell forward, and splashed whoever was behind me with a nearby puddle. "W-Woah!! You have a water quirk?!" I looked up to see Kirishima was behind me, I ran up to him and covered his mouth, "SHUSH!!" I hushed him and looked around me, "You scared the hell outta me, you spiky dork." My eyes darted around us to see if anyone saw or heard him. Seemingly alone, I bended the water off of him and returned it to the nearby puddle it came from. He laughed heartily, "Sorry about that, but still, your quirk!" I shushed him again, "Will you keep it down! I don't want anyone to know yet. Since I missed the entrance exams I want my quirk to wow everyone. So, keep it to your self!" He seemed kinda puzzled with my goal, but to me, it made sense. Especially after what happened with Bakugou. I didn't want to show him up or anything, I felt like, in a way, I was trying to prove myself to him for whatever reason. "By the way, could you not sneak up on me like that? Y-You really scared me half to death," I said opening the classroom door. "Ah come on, (Y/N), I can't surprise my new 'Girlfriend,'" he was laughing again. I blushed deeply and smacked him on the side of the head.
As Kirishima said, Mr. Aizawa was testing us on the strength and skill of our quirks. I was nervous about demonstrating what I can do, although this is the moment I was waiting for. It felt like people were underestimating me because of short stature. We were instructed to change into our gym clothes and meet out on the training field. The first test was a similar one we performed in middle school, throwing a baseball as hard as we could using our quirks. Unlike middle school though, here we were free to use our quirks under the guidelines of the teachers. 'I'm guessing these are going to be comparing and contrasting times and scores to the previous ones we have from middle school.' Mr. Aizawa was simply explaining the rules and what we would be doing for the rest of the day, "And also, The student who has the lowest score will be expelled. So do your best." There was a collective gasp amongst the class, I looked around and landed on Izuku Midoriya. I heard a lot about him and his quirk from the exam. Rumor has it, he can't control his quirk, but he has an amazing punch. He saved someone during the exam but it cost him breaking his arms and legs. Midoriya was physically shaking and had a terrified expression on his face. 'I'd be worried too if I was him... I'm sure you'll do fine!'
Mr. Aizawa called up Bakugou to go first to demonstrate. As he was winding up to throw I snuck over to Midoriya and whispered to him, "Hey are you alright?" He yelped but calmed down immediately, "O-Oh hey (Y/N), Yeah I'm alright, just really nervous..." I patted his back and smiled, "It'll be okay just focus and do your best!" Midoriya blushed brightly and thanked me, I turned my attention back to Bakugou, 'Now let's see what you can do...' He reeled back and I could see sparks begin to form on the palm of his hand. All of the sudden Bakugou lunges forward and blasts the ball high into the sky with a large explosion from his hand, he yelled, 'DIE!!' after expelling the ball from his grip. I was amazed that his quirk was so powerful, I had never seen anything like it. 'So he can summon an explosion from his hands... that's impressive... no wonder he's so cocky.' He turned back around and our eyes met again, only this time he turned with a smirk on his face but then returned to that same angry expression. 'What was that about...?'
After a few more students went, I was next. 'I was so confident in showing my quirk, but after seeing most of the other students I'm not so sure...' I was going right after Shoto Todoroki, who has a half fire/half ice quirk, which wasn't helping my nerves calm down. The whole way up to the start line I was thinking about how I was going to throw the ball as hard as I could. I remembered that there was a technique I started to develop when I was younger. I made sure that I was properly hydrated for anything we might be doing today, so I think over-doing it a little bit right now wouldn't be so bad. I took a deep breath, pulled water out of my cantina strapped to my hip, and formed the water into octopus arms all around me. I used 2 of them to repel me up into the air and used the extra water I had left to launch the ball further into the sky. I landed on the ground and retracted the water into my cantina. "(Y/N) (L/N)," Mr. Aizawa called. I turned towards him and he read my score, I was pleasantly surprised it was way higher than I expected. "Way to go!" Kirishima chanted. "You were amazing, You had a water quirk the whole time!!" Mina chimed in. I blushed and rubbed the back of my head, "Thanks guys." I turned around and meet Bakugou's gaze again, he was more pissed than I had ever seen him. He looked like he was trying to shoot daggers at me, then he turned back around. 'What the hell is your problem, Bakugou?' Next, was Midoriya, he was shaking even when he was walking up to the start line. 'This is it... I've been waiting to see what he could do...' He picked up the ball and stared at it for a moment, 'He has to throw the ball without hurting himself, can he do it?' Midoriya reeled back and I could see what looked like green electricity forming around his arm. He then launched the ball, with a sad plop on the ground. We were all shocked, especially him, but it turned out Mr. Aizawa had used his quirk to stop Midoriya from hurting himself again. Aizawa was upset that someone like Midoriya could get into U.A. if he couldn't use his quirk properly compared to the rest of our class. 'T-That's a bit harsh... maybe he developed his quirk very late...' Aizawa returned his quirk and warned him that he had two more tries to throw the ball properly if he had any chance of passing. I gulped, 'I know you can do it. I know you can.' Midoriya took a couple of deep breaths and reeled back once more to throw the ball. I didn't see anything until the very last moment when his pointer finger sparked, then launched the ball extremely high. I was amazed and looked back down at him, "Mr. Aizawa," he said clutching his hand tightly, "I can still move my arms." I smiled brightly, 'He actually did it!! What a powerful quirk!' I looked at his hand once more, Midoriya's pointer finger was swollen and dark purple. Before he was able to finish the rest of the course he had to see recovery girl.
[After School]
We finished the rest of the obstacle courses for the rest of the test. After everyone had seen their scores, Mr. Aizawa revealed that he was lying about expelling the student who came in last. It turns out that it was all just to keep us motivated to do our best and not slack off. 'A part of me knew that he was lying but on the flip side I was still worried.' We all changed back into our uniforms, with some stalled sneak attempt from Mineta to peak at us, I then met up with Kirishima and began to walk home. "Damn (Y/N), I didn't know your quirk was so strong! You were amazing," he smiled. "Ah come on, you're gushing me up to much," I felt myself blushing again, "Besides I haven't used that move in since I was a kid. I didn't think it was going to work." He chuckled and patted me on the back and assured me that I did a good job. "Hey, Kirishima, (Y/N), wait up!!" We heard what sounded like Midoriya calling after us. "Oh hey!" I called back to him, "You did amazing in the baseball throwing challenge!" He finally caught up to us, "I-I was gonna say the same about you guys! Your quirk is really amazing (Y/N), I've never seen anyone control water like that!" I chuckled as he was asking me all sorts of questions about me, but he was nudged to the side by Bakugou. "Outta my way you damn nerd!" he shouted. Bakugou then turned his attention towards me, walks up, and looks down like he did before with that same angry look he gave me earlier. "Who the hell do you think you are hiding a quirk like that!?" He yelled at me. "Hey man, chill out," Kirishima tried to step between the two of us. "STAY OUTTA THIS DUMB HAIR!" Bakugou yelled back. "It's alright," I smiled at Kirishima then looked Bakugou right in the eyes again, "What is your problem? I did nothing to you and yet you're being a big jerk." He seemed to have steam come outta his ears when I said that. "You think you're better than me, huh, short stump?" He asked snarling at me, "I guess you do since you're hanging out with Deku over there." I frowned, my shuddering turned to anger, and my brow furrowed, "Leave Midoriya alone, just because you have an amazing quirk doesn't give you the right to be an asshole! If you can't find humility in yourself to see your own flaws, then your gonna have a hard time trying to become a hero!" I walked over and grabbed Deku's hand and walked away with Kirishima's hand in the other, and left Bakugou there on the sidewalk.
"Sorry for the trouble I caused," Midoriya bowed, "Kacchan can be a bit overwhelming. He's been like that since we were kids." I smiled and waved at him, "No sweat it, he has no right to treat you like that." We all laughed and Midoriya closed the door, I looked over at Kirishima, who was still holding my hand. "U-Um, you can let go now," I pointed to our hands, somehow intertwined with each other. He must have not noticed because when he looked at our hands he quickly pulled away. "O-Oh, sorry, Honestly I wasn't paying attention!" He laughed along with me and we continued walking home. "So what do you think we'll be doing next?" He asked hands behind his head. "Not sure, but hopefully something exciting! I don't think I can take any more boring homework," I sighed thinking of all the work we'd have to do. "If you need a tutor, you can always call me," he winked. "Sure whatever you say," I rolled my eyes at him. "Hey, by the way, sorry about bakugou. Like I said before, he's really not that bad of a guy when you really get to know him," Kirishima stopped in front of his house. "You don't have to apologize for him. I don't think he's nothing I can't handle," I chuckled, "I do feel bad for what I said. Maybe I was being too harsh on him, sure he was mean, but I feel like I was in the wrong." Kirishima placed a hand on my shoulder, "He might not accept it but, it wouldn't hurt to apologize." I nodded and hugged him, "Your right, I'll give it a try, thanks Kirishima I'll give it a shot!" I waved him goodbye and continued walking home. Although it was getting darker outside, I didn't live that far away from Kirishima, so I wasn't afraid of walking home alone. I was a block away when it felt like there was someone behind me. I heard someone yelling, "Oi, Short stump, get over here!" I turned to see Bakugou waving me over. 'Him? Waving me over?' I walked towards him, "Look... if you're here to yell at me from earlier, save it..." I could tell he was about to say something but I cut him off, "Because I want to apologize for what I said earlier. Although I stand by what I said about you being a jerk, I shouldn't have question your ability to be a hero... I'm sorry Katsuki Bakugou..." I bowed waiting for an insult or something along those lines. I looked back up at him but he just looked away towards the setting sun. Bakugou walked past me, "Just stay outta my way, and I might not have to kill you." He kept walking after that, I was stunned by what he said, but moreover, the fact that he sounded so calm saying that last sentence. Bakugou saying he'd kill me wasn't what shocked me, it was almost as if he was unsure of what to say. Still, I took it as he accepted my apology and I made peace with at least that.
'What a weird day...'
