Is there nothing Captain America can't do?

"Boom! Pow! Wam! Captain America strikes again. Saving the city from the terrifying enemy. Is there nothing he can't do?"

I closed my comic book and turned around in my chair to face my best friend Emily. "Is there nothing Captain America can't do," I asked.

"He can't defeat Thor," she said without even looking up from her own comic. "Come on, Bailey. You should know that by now"

Emily and I have been best friends since kindergarten when she almost cut off my finger with a CD. That's a story for another time.

We have both been obsessed with everything superheroes since her older brother gave us all of his old comic books. We instantly fell in love. We've read almost every comic there is (ok that might be a slight exaggeration but you get the point).

It's our dream to become superheroes that fight crime. Every time a new comic comes out, we are one of the first people to get it.

Currently we are in Mr Stire, our math teacher's, classroom. He had a mohawk with tattoos all over his arms (that's actually a funny story but also for another time). He was normally late for our classes so we were pretty used to it.

"Where is Olivia? I thought she said she wasn't skipping classes anymore," I said. Olivia was my other best friend. We became friends a few years ago because she was friends with Emily.

"I'm actually not sure," said Emily. "I texted her but she hasn't responded yet. She probably just slept in."

I shrugged and turned back around in my seat. I read a little more while I was waiting.

After a few minutes, Olivia came running in and sat in the empty seat next to me. She leaned over to my desk and whispered, "Am I too late?"

I gave her a straight face and said "Yes you are so very late. Please stop talking and let our invisible teacher finish the lesson. This is very rude."

She then looked at the front of the room for the first time and realized that no one was there. "Phew. I was really worried," She said laughing.

I laughed with her and went back to my comic while she started to play on her phone.

About halfway through class, Mr. Stire showed up and started teaching. He never tells us why he is always so late but we all have a theory that he uses our class period as an excuse to get food. He almost always walks in with a fast food cup filled with Dr. Pepper.

After half an hour of doing boring stuff, we finally finished. I grabbed my bag and walked to my locker with my friends.

Emily was the only one with a locker near mine and it was still like 7 lockers down. I don't know how or when it happened but my locker kind of became our home base. Everyone puts there stuff in my locker if they can't get to theirs in time or they just don't feel like it.

As we got closer to my locker, I noticed Peter standing by my locker.

Peter has been my best friend since second grade. He's definitely my best guy friend. Emily, Olivia, Peter and I were kind of our own little group. Of course we are friends with a lot of other people but we always do everything together.

"Did y'all hear?" He asked once we were close enough.

"Hear what?" Emily asked with a confused look. She looked at me but I just shrugged and turned to Peter expecting him to explain.

"They made a new superhero. No one knows anything about it except that it's supposed to come out after school today!"

Emily screamed and I quickly covered her mouth with my hand while the other two tried to shush her.

"Do you want to catch the attention of the entire school?" Olivia asked gesturing to everyone looking at us.

"So we are going straight after school, right?" I asked.

They all nodded.

We all jumped when the bell rang. I said goodbye and headed off to my next class, English.

Suddenly I felt something hard hit my back and knock me to the ground. "Ow," I said from the ground trying to find out what hit me.

"Oh my gosh I'm so so sorry," I heard from above me.

I saw a hand appear above me. I grabbed it and let the person pull me to my feet.

My attacker was a boy that I didn't recognize. He must be new because I pretty much know most everyone (my school isn't that big).

"I am so sorry, " he started saying. "I was trying to get to my class because I can't be late on my first day and I didn't even see you and that must have hurt so bad because all of my textbooks were in my book sack and-"

"It's really okay," I told him sincerely. "It honestly doesn't hurt that bad and I completely understand. If you need any help getting around, you can totally come to me."

He smiled. "Thank you."

"No problem," I said starting to step away. "I have to get to class now. I'll catch you later."

"Bye," he said giving me a small, awkward wave.

I gave a small laugh at his awkwardness and waved goodbye.

When I got to my next class, English, I sat down and waited for the bell to ring. It was only then that I realized I never even introduced myself or got his name. I told him to come to me if he needed help and I forgot to even tell him who I was.

I am quite dumb most of the time.

English ended up being boring. Really boring.

We were all just attempting to take notes while watching the teacher make huge hand gestures.

In the entire hour I was there, I managed to get two sentences and a picture of an apple. I still am not sure how that happened since we were learning about writing essays.

Twenty minutes left...

In noticed that the kid in front of me had a tattoo on his neck. I assumed that it was fake because we are only freshmen and I didn't think he could get a tattoo. It was of a lion growling at something to its left. The detail on it was really good.

Fifteen minutes left...

I started doodling in my notebook. I drew pictures of sunsets (the only thing I can draw).

Ten minutes left...

I started staring at the clocking as it ticked. I looked like it was getting slower and slower.

Five minutes left...

So close. Just five more minutes till I can leave the classroom and get the new comic.

One minute left...

I had my backpack in hand and I was on the edge of my seat. I've already finished the reading that we were supposed to do and now I'm just ready to go.

I was already halfway to the door when the bell rang.
