I moved my fingers over the warm cardboard cup of tea in my grasp, the heater of the crowded shop pleasant upon my cold skin. The weather was changing fast, summer crashing down and fall was officially beginning. I was grateful Inko Midoriya wanted to talk inside, as the breeze would soon become intolerable.
"So...Mrs. Yagi...I wanted to ask you a few things regarding my son." She began, a small smile on her face.
"Go ahead, and please, call me Y/n. I insist." I grinned back, folding my hands in my lap.
"Okay...Y/n, then. Your husband came to my home when UA was turning to the dormitory system. He said some truly... inspirational, yet horrifyingly true things. Has your husband been training my son? Is that the trainer he'd run off to last year?" She asked, her eyes gleaming with interest.
"Well, yes! The moment I met your son, I saw what my husband saw within him. He was, to put it simply, born with such a heroic drive, that we both concurred that he was destined to be a hero. A great hero, too. I wanted to act like someone who would help him as much as my husband as. Since they have similar Quirks, that was the reason he took up training him." I hoped that his parents had a weirdly similar Quirk...I didn't want to explain One For All behind Izuku and Toshinori's backs. I knew the list grew recently to include Bakugo...We couldn't risk his family finding out in case of unforeseen horrors.
"I'm...flattered you saw such potential in my boy. I'd always hoped he would be as good a person as he is, even though he's...reckless sometimes. Speaking of his Quirk, it's quite the anomaly... for my Izuku to have such a strong power when all I can do it levitate small objects towards me and my husband who can breathe fire... He didn't get this Quirk until recently, then. He was told as a child he was Quirkless, and it...crushed him...and me. It's been so hard to raise him alone, but I must thank you and All Might for helping him get this far." Inko beamed at me, a little teary-eyed.
I reached over and pat her shoulder, "You're welcome. He's like family now, and so are you. If you ever need anything and maybe need to see him for a little, you come to us. I think I understand what it's like...being worried for someone. My husband and his failing health these previous years, that we've tried so hard to conceal...I thought he nearly died many times. May I ask...where your husband is?" Please don't be too intrusive...
"Oh! He's working overseas for us. He's a big media guy. His name is Hisashi. I'll see if I can find a picture of him..." She opened her phone and scrolled around while we continued to talk.
Who named their kid 'a long time ago'...? Odd. Eh, I won't judge.
"I haven't heard from him in a few months. It's been a little hard, but he said he would be very busy. We actually ordered the flowers for our wedding at your flower shop in Camino, I believe!" She found a picture, and that mixed with what she has just said sent a chill down to the core of my being.
Hisashi Midoriya looked extremely similar to...All For One the day he came into my flower shop. The white hair...the freckles...the suit. It all matched in my blotchy memory. I swallowed hard when I saw Inko beside him, thinner than she was now...the woman who came in two years after. They looked like a regular, happy couple, and that irked me even more.
"He was my first real love. Growing up in the foster system was tough for me, so I wanted to give my son a wonderful life. He agreed, so he works hard from afar to give us all we need." she swooned.
"You were...in the foster system? Never adopted?" I pushed out words through my rising panic.
Inko sadly shook her head. "No...I wasn't. I guess my birth mom never wanted me...and no one else did until he came along. I think I prefer the name Midoriya behind my name as opposed to Shimura."
My heart took a plunge into my stomach, my face turning stark white.
Inko took notice, concern flashing across her face. She was younger than me sure, but I think her motherly instincts kicked in. "Are you okay?!"
"Y...Yes...Mrs. Midoriya...I've been helping in some kind of independent investigation for a few months now...ever since the Camino incident. I've been finding some very interesting things...I was wondering if you would-?"
My phone began to buzz rapidly, and so did hers on the table. We both couldn't help but look down at our screens, as the chatter in the cafe became a dull roar, and then a panicked and curious collection of yells.
"Oh no!" Inko covered her mouth. "Tartarus has been raised! The world's most high-tech facility...these villains are out again and..."
My eyed went bug when I read it over myself, the TVs in the room turning to the news. Then I got a call from Naomasa, whom I quickly picked up for. "Hey, are you seeing this...? What's happening?!"
"We have no idea...a variety of extremely dangerous villains are either confirmed deceased or haven't been found yet. We definitely believe All For One is the culprit."
"Sp...speaking of him...I have some leads on the case. We need to meet, please, this will help explain a lot..." My body shook under my clothes.
"Come to the police station now, All Might is on his way, too! Hurry!" He hung up.
I couldn't believe this was happening...As Inko panicked, I stood up. "Mrs. Midoriya...can you come with me?"
"Wh-Where?"
"The police station. You're very important to this investigation."
She perked up, fear and confusion in her gaze... just like everyone else.
